Hello

My Seat Toledo diesel 52 plate power steering has suddenly failed today.

The car still drives but the battery light is constantly on and the steering is (obviously) extremely heavy.

I have checked under the bonnet and a belt has come lose.

Its on the left hand side adjacent to the windscreen washer tank

( I cannot include images as I haven't posted enough)

Does any one know if this belt is the power steering belt?

Any advise would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Sounds like your auxiliary belt. Has it actually come off the pulleys or has it broken?

It drives the power steering pump (hence the heavy feel) and the alternator (hence the battery light on) and also the aircon compressor.

Without it, the battery will obviously flatten as you drive instead of being charged.

Appreciate the quick response mate

The belt hasn't broken.

From inspecting it it seems to have come off the pulley

Is it just a case of me purchasing a new belt for a garage to replace the belt?

I'd be curious as to why it came off the pulleys in the first place, so check the trueness of all the pulleys involved first.

It could just be needing a new belt, it's about a 5 min job if you get the spanner out ;)

We have a renowned road in Wolverhampton which trams drive down.

The road has pot holes due to the trams daily commute.

I think I hit a pot hole after I drove down the road because 5 minutes after I parked up the steering failed.

Ill have a proper look in the morning

Appreciate all your help and advise mate

Cheers
