Here in the UK Mapcare is not provided by Seat Uk, been requested for four years now atleast, so the published updates from the Navigation website are not suppose to work. Avid readers of the Leon thread which has been running since 2013 which currently runs to 31 pages, will know that Exciter from planet Krypton made a break threw in January 2017 for the SD based system finding the patent to the method used to store the files [526] by post 529 he had sorted it. The reboot issue that was being talked about went away.

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=388586&page=27

Interesting a guy on the "grumpy" Ateca board claims this as their own thinking it's a documentation issue with the Here Maps website... err no cryto key on the SD card and the root index file has been side stepped.

ECE 2017/2018 (May / June 2017) Mapcare Update

Navigation Plus

We are just running into a round of navigation updates May / June 2017 "ECE 2017-18" the Navigation Plus ones have been available for sometime for anyone who has Mapcare (readers outside UK). Whilst these are yet to appear on the Seat side of the Here maps website other wise called "Navigation". They have been available on the VW site via a direct link first published on a Russian site but now published on the VW map site:

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...nFrame_campaign_light&Page=VW_Europe_Pro_MIB2

The German Ateca site Navigation Plus users loaded these up last month and found them to be fine since the map updates are common across the VAG group. Skoda Columbus users have also loaded these up and updated their maps since they haven't been put up on the Skoda site yet. You download the full file if you have a Plus unit with Mapcare (FAT32 is the format of choice on a class 10 SD card) or get up set if you haven't Mapcare [:@].

Standard Navigation

The grumpy board gives the index to the old ECE 2017 Maps for the update

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...true&&NewDomainName=Navteq-NavteqEurope-Site&

That can probably be bettered. This is the download to use for the Ateca standard system called Discover Media in VW parlance, ECE 2017-18 [May / June 2017 release] anyone who wants to try:

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...me_campaign_light&&Page=VW_Europe_Media_MIB2&

But don't blame me since I don't have the standard system to test, you just copy your old file back if it doesn't work... the main thing is to back up the contents of the SD card before writing anything to it. For those that feel the need for the Exciter solution copy the said original maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS file and overwrite that onto the SD card replacing the new one with the old - the Exciter method. Use 7Zip to unpack the files. The question is whether the Excitee method is still good for ECE 2017-2018 maps, guess so.

Try not to use a Mac since that can generate additional hidden files which can screw things up. There are MAC tools to remove the hidden files which can be found on the net on discussions on updating Discover maps, they are run on the SD card to clean the rubbish files off prior to putting the card in the unit. Some people with Macs do it in a Windows environment.

The MAC issues effects the file update for both the SD and SSD Vag units which is why the DiscoverCare options from the VW website offer a more fool proof method in downloading the map files for both PC and MAC.

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/navigation-and-entertainment-systems/discover-navigation

The Skoda site is similar but needs a Skoda VIN to access whilst the VW site is open to all. Same files as long as you pick the correct Mib2 unit, standard or high, Discover Media (SD based) or Pro (SSD) respectively.

Either way playing with the files on a Mac after the creation of the SD card means you need to be aware of the hidden files that can be generated which Discover units trip up on.

Yeah... and as pointed out elsewhere the postcode business of whether to use the space or not was introduced in ECE 2017 when you had to leave out the space in postcodes, prior could have them in or out.

The standard Mib2 ECE 2017-2018 update is here for anyone who wants to try... The updates are common within the VAG group for Mib2 Standard and High. Seat and Skoda publish the material after VW in general.

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...me_campaign_light&&Page=VW_Europe_Media_MIB2&

The Mib2High for the Plus unit ECE 2017-2018 is here

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...nFrame_campaign_light&Page=VW_Europe_Pro_MIB2

& for purists who only accept anything that says Seat and Ateca in it the same files have now arrived on the Seat side of the Here maps website

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...ding&&NewDomainName=Navteq-NavteqEurope-Site&

Accepting everything that has been read on the thread so far...

Seat Navigation Plus / Discovery Pro / Columbus MIB2 High Units with the SSD

For the Seat Navigation Plus / Discovery Pro / Columbus MIB2 High Units with the SSD I've discovered a work around to update the POIs, the postcodes, addresses etc, voice but not the road network which remains protected. Better than nothing if you have not got Mapcare since it's not offered in your country. It is for the technically minded but easy enough to do.

Post 699 on the main Leon navigation thread:

2018 has been available since November 2017. Publishing cycles are June for the mid years one xx being the current year gives you xx / xx+1, whilst the following years update which is good till June of that year is xx+1. The trusty Leon thread linked above covers it.

Tell. I Have an 18 registered Ateca with standard navigation system the SD card shows Europe 1 V4 and my screen shows 6P0919866m 0730 EC1 2017 shield 2016-44 build 309 and the 10th letter of my vin number is J. What is the correlation between the SD card and version on the screen? I ask the question because i think I have an out of date maps and or software.? I saw on your post that the latest version is 0915 Nov 17. Mine is 0730 it's very confusing. Can you help me out please. Thanks to you I have done all the changes with my VCDS cable and they work. also I have made a new floor for the boot it's now level with the lip and when the seats are down. I have also wired a 12 volt socket in the book. So everything is now as it was on my Leon. If I could get my map confirmed I would be a happy.

Yes post 884 covers it on this thread

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=388586&page=45

The method has been good for sometime. The source of the map updates in the post linked is the main VW one but if the Seat site now gives you 0915 then you can use that. Either is the same. That's the variation this time round as far as that thread was concerned on the Mib2 Standard based systems people took the release early. Just need to back up the contents of the card so you have a fail safe and also you are going to copy back that single file back onto it. People get into a mess if they dont back up or try to use a different card from the original to put the contents on after they have deleted the existing version. The latter doesn't work since the card is locked to the unit via a hidden partition that remains after the delete, the copy back tallies with the hidden partition and that then works with the replaced filestructure.

Seems like you have made a lot of progress getting the car the way you want it.

PS. The 2017 in your existing map file means it was released in November 2016. The 2018 is the November 2017 release. A year on. The next release will be June that will be 2018 / 19 in the code.

Tell, I have been in touch with my Seat Dealer with the information you supplied and they have conceded that my maps are out of date and will be up grading my SD card which has saved my £84. Thanks again.

Aggie, I trust it goes painlessly. I think they would be looking for a larger figure if they were doing it routinely. There have been cases where quite old maps have been installed in Atecas, missing SD cards and the like. The cards are suppose to be shipped separately from the cars these days and also in the past supply problems when a new release was coming out. Whatever card is introduced into the car becomes the card that is linked into the infotainment system - that's how they get old cards in them. Without Mapcare or working around it, requires a visit to the dealer for an upgrade.

Tell it's a free up grade because they supplied the 18 reg with out of date maps The service manager told me we aim to please. It certainly pleased me.

My dealer was as good as his word they posted me a new card V6 0915 i put it in slot 1 and bingo it worked perfectly. Does this mean that the card will only work in my car or is it interchangeable?

Yes it's been married up now. The hidden partition should now have written to it your headend details. So its treated as an upgrade. I wouldn't go pushing it into another Seat now. But you should be Ok for the documented process on the other thread (Leon side) for June time and indeed November.

The unit can also take speed camera warnings if you are interested in that. There is a thread on that here (see below). Basically the Poi's are copied into the unit from the other slot, they don't go on the card. Then you can have sound warning when approaching cameras. I drive by speed warning beeps and camera beeps. It's easy to speed. I only update these every three months or so. It has been known for VAG to change the update site... have to look at it if they have. Basically what the VAG site does is read in your POI database and write out an upload file (SQL mapping database file).

Thanks. I'll post that up credited to you on the Seat Leon thread mentioned at the top here. I'm sure they will be very pleased.

I haven't managed to find away to edit board titles yet for threads with the new board software once started else I'd edit in 2018/2019 release title. Perhaps a hand from above will give a steer :).
