Mk2 Leon TDI 140 Remap Advice Pls!

Hi Guys,

Im hoping some of you out there can help advise me.

Im considering getting a remap for my car and im not sure how best to go about it.

Im currently driving a Mark 2 Leon TDI 140. Id like to up the power output to around the power mark of the FR (180ish).

Ive seen a fair few people advertising various ways of doing this, but id like some honest answers from those of you who have had it done.

Im thinking right off the bat to avoid replacing the ecu chip as ive heard bad things about this. Instead i was thinking of a custom ECU remap.

Can anyone advise who best to do this? I was considering Jabba Tuning before i even came to this forum, and see they actually advertise here. Has anyone used them? Can anyone suggest someone better?

Ive heard things regarding Bluefin, but im not entirely sure what it is. I gather its a way of remaping the ECU from home? They send you out a machine, you read your programme and then email it to them. They send you out a new programme and you upload it to the car? Is this a better system? Is it cheaper / more expensive?

Finally, are there any pitfalls i have to watch out for? Do i need to upgrade any other engine components to take the strain of the increased power output?

Do i need a way of resetting the Remap before i take it in for service etc etc?

Ive never done anything like this before and i could use all the advice i can get from the modding experts among you.

Hi

I have exactly the same car with the DSG gearbox.

I had mine remapped couple of years ago by Superchips who now sell the Bluefin. Have been really happy with the performance & (touch wood!) no problems so far. After had it re mapped had it on rolling road showing 185bhp & about 295lbs of torque.

Superchips are not the most powerful maps available but are very smooth. This is why I went for them so a bit easier on the DSG.

New Bluefin system means you can basically take the new map on & off whenever you like. Very handy if putting in for service, letting other people drive etc. I also understand that when you put back to OEM settings the map is undetectable.

I have been very happy with it & would highly recommend it. Worth every penny as better to drive, even normally, & slightly better MPG when you do!

Thanks fir the advice. Is it better to go for a gentler map to avoid having to upgrade the rest of the engine components?

If they're all generic stage one maps does anyone have any advice on who's are hard and who's are softer?

Does the map have to be taken off before servicing? Is there a reason it needs to be underectable?

I don't think you need to start upgrading engine components until you get to stage 3. Saying that, it's also a good idea to upgrade the exhaust/air filter to get the most from the remap. I still haven't done this & probably won't for some time now as getting married in 5wks & pockets are empty!!

I went for the smoother power curve you get from Superchips as apparently the DSG gearbox can be a bit fragile & not really rated to take very high torque figures. Also, if you bust the gearbox it costs about £4000 to replace!!

The only benefit of having a map that can be removed & is then untracable are: a) if your car is still covered by warranty & b) in the event of a claim if you have not informed your insurance that your car has been modified.

I can't give you anymore info as I'm no mechanic! Some of the guys are here really know there stuff & will give you much fuller advice.

can you confirm the Bluefin device resets the flash clock counter?

Sorry I can't confirm this, only what I have read on the forum.

People say that Bluefin actually re-installs factory settings so cannot be detected. Think I may have seen that it resets counters but you would need to check. If you have Revo switchable system, when you put back to standard, it flashes ECU with Revo's version of standard as opposed to installing the original OEM settings.

Im just really worried that ill get the remap, but not upgrade some other component and that'll be it - a blown engine in 6 months due to excessive engine strain.

Why not have a look at the Revo online link from the home page on here, ask the technical guys there about any misgivings you may have and I'm sure they'll give you straight answers without any crap, as I said before they only develope re-maps and mods for VAG and Porsche and if you look at the testing and re-mapping they're carrying out worldwide you'll start to appreciate the difference between experts and the DIY programmes some companies sell. :D

As for blowing the engine, if that was the case why don't the Fr's (most of which are pushing out in excess of 180BHP in standard form) regularly blow up?
