Why is it so hard to order a part!?

Argh!!!!!

I've been ringing around since 9am this morning trying to get hold of a new coil.

VW Garage #1 (Closest) won't talk to me because its a Seat.
VW Garage #2 have no record of the part number, either the OEM one off the top of the old coil, or the replacement part number I found online for 2007. They can find the part on the system but unless I take my car into them for them to check that it IS the coil that's gone they wont sell it to me.

I can't do that as my car is at home on the drive unable to move because the coil is dead!!!!!

Seat Garage #1 (50 minutes drive away from my house) CAN find the part number, BUT according to their computer my car is a Yellow Ibiza 1.9 Diesel so they say Its the wrong part I'm trying to order....despite me explaining that my car really isn't a Yellow Diesel.
Seat Garage #2 (1hr 20 mins drive away) Yes they know the part, I bought my car from them so its on the system as a 1.2 Arctic Grey Ibiza as it should be and they can order it for me BUT
-It'll take 4 days
-I have to go pick it up as they wont post it to me.

Its 2 hours and 3 changes by train to get there.... I much prefer buying my parts offline as I can take them back if there are any problems, but its beginning to look like I'm going to have to take a gamble and get it off the net.

Anyone else had such a hassle sourcing a simple part?!

Have u not tried to get it replaced under warranty? I beleive the coils are covered by a 5 year warranty on Seat and VW cars as there have been lots of problems wiht these.

Kriso,

Its an option, however the only problem would be getting my car to the dealers, as I said above, the place I got the car is well over an hours drive away, as they moved premises since I bought it.

The car's 4 years old so the Seat Assistance has expired and I'd have to pay to get it towed there, which would probably be at least £60, where as I can order new coils and fit them myself for about £20 each...as long as I can get some!

personally i'd explain the car is off road and you have no transport would you mind if i took the part number to see if i could source it locally ?

most dealers are dropping staff like stones in a pond cos of this new nationwide TPS centre strategy

stick your postcode in there and see who's the closest
