So this weekend I went about wiring in an OEM USB socket into centre console.
After buying all the bits & bobs, this is how I went about it:
Removed the centre armrest
Removed the centre console (and gear lever gaitor)
Unplugged all connections- OBD/Fuel cap/Traction Control
Marked out and carefully cut hole for socket
Removed the lower dash panel and fuse box cover
Disconnected the battery negative before touching any of the electrics
A couple of parts bought from the Bay:item numbers 201930243159, 180735526749, 161152971980
Soldered 2 lengths of 1mm cable (1 x red & 1 x black) to the convertor and fuse piggy back then fed them under the centre console carpet, routed them under the dash and connected the black to the earth point under steering column with the red wire passed through fuse box and crimped into position - used piggy back into cigarette lighter fuse and 3amp fuse.
Fitted all back in reverse and reconnected battery (remember to have your radio code) then tried it out on my old iPod
