I've recently had a stage 1 remap on my leon fr TDI170 and today I received a letter from seat saying it needs a software update to meet the emission standards, does anybody know if this will write over the remap or if it'll be ok?

If you have the software update applied it will ruin your car whether you have a remap or not so ignore the letter. There is no legal requirement in the UK to have the emissions "fix" applied.

No, just a voice of wisdom.

Read all the owner comments at the bottom of the following article and make up your own mind...

For my last service I drafted this letter...

Convinced yet? :D

The emissions fix will indeed wipe over any remap you have. There have been some complaints about the update causing issues with people's cars.

https://www.theguardian.com/money/2...skoda-seat-emissions-fix-left-car-undriveable

There's a bit of an exaggeration factor involved as people with a problem these days will usually complain on the internet somewhere whereas no-one ever posts saying they've had no issues, but issues do seem to be rather more widespread than you'd expect.

My car won't be going in as it's remapped but to be honest I probably wouldn't take it in even if it wasn't.

Interestingly the SEAT TPI on the EA189 fix says the service centre should ask the customer if the vehicle has been remapped (as well as checking for the diagnostic flag for ECU tampering) and seek confirmation that the customer wishes to go ahead with the update.

The simplest solution to avoid it being applied at all costs is to not take the car to a SEAT dealer. I've made the decision to start self servicing my car after seeing how badly it's been treated by SEAT anyway. I've got scratched paint in the engine bay and a couple of sheared bolts too and of course the dealer that last serviced it just shrugged their shoulders when I sent them photos of the issues.

Yeah do not get the emissions fix done but if it's mapped it will clear the map.

As other posts imply lots of people had issues since the fix, including myself though I remapped specifically to try and get rid of the emissions fix hopefully in time enough for no permanent damage (fingers crossed) been going ok so far.

It's not the difference in power or mpg it's the fact it increases frequency of regens and increases usage of the egr and adds extra injection so leads to potential premature failure of egr valve, dpf or injectors. I monitored my dpf fill rate with an app on my phone via obd and it doubled after the 'fix' it halved again after my remap.

Good find and an interesting read.

The results are unsurprising. It's clear from VW's language when talking about the fix not affecting the advertised performance and economy figures that they meant exactly that and other characteristics of the engine would be affected.

The only way to fix the emissions problem is to reduce combustion temperatures and that of course means less efficient fuel use.
