Exhaust Pressure Sensor failure AGAIN

at 20,000miles approx I had the DPF and Emmisions light come on together, into dealer and diagnosed as a faulty exhaust pressure sensor, replaced and all OK, Its now happened again at 43000 miles, do these things only last 20K, and how much will it cost me next time when it is out of warranty.
How far can I continue to drive before I get it fixed without causing other problems or is it just a fault with no further consequences other than being plain irritating.
And of course it fails on a Saturday after the dealer shuts when I am commited to doing a long motorway run tomorrow, sods law, or is that Seats law.

I'm on my 6th in 70,000 miles ..

I should clarify ... 16,000 my first one failed .. then it was remapped at 20,000 and have been failing ever since (although 2 were from a faulty batch so only lasted a week) - so really its 4 in 70,000 .. or approximately 1 every 17,000 miles ish.

is it true that one cure is for the dealer to upgrade ECU and that this actually ignores the input from the pressure sensor and Seat have used this to get around the known issues with this type of sensor. ? anyone?

they dont put the sensors on for fun .... they'll be there for a reason.

DPF regen is a dangerous process, which if tried with sensors failed can result in a fire ... (just ask a well known tuner!)

If anything is out of "standard" levels, DPF regen wont happen.

The ECU upgrade means that the DPF regen is started sooner (i.e. instead of 70% full .. its 60% full **made up figures - i don't know the exact figures!) therefore it has more time to do a regen before it fails and goes into limp.

Of course if the sensor has failed, it wont regen - so you'll end up in limp.

last time I did over 500 miles before the dealer could get the car in and fortunately it never went into any "limp" mode, my DPF regen actually still appears to happen as the DPF light has gone out but the emissions light has stayed on (same as it did last time). I guess if the sensor fails to a high level (higher pressure) this is used to indicate partial blockage and regen is required (differential pressure across filter effect) but if faulty it will keep starting regen when not required hence I assume the overheat problem. I know little about DPF and Exhaust systems but I know a lot about pressure measurement and sensors as I am an instrumentation specialist for ... pressure measurement... Another reason why I am so annoyed at this fault.... Physician heal thyself etc.
