Ibiza passenger wing mirror motor issue

Hello,
Someone clipped my driver's side motor controlled wing mirror on my 11 plate Mk5 Ibiza and when it's switched it now circles 360 before stopping in the same position. It's not a inwards folding mirror, it's one of the versions that folds up and back around again.

I'm not sure which part actually stops the mirror in the 'up position' - the mirror housing or the motor itself.

I searched the issue on the forum, but only found a thread for an issue which appeared to be intermittent and cold weather related. My issue has been since the summer and happens regardless of temp. I cannot link the thread as my post count isn't high enough.

Any help would be appreciated!

did another car hit the side mirror?
if yes probably an internal part is broken and needs replacement.
you can buy them online for about 80€ and then paint it to the color of your car or carefully remove the back part from yours and put it to the new one.
I recommend Alkar as it appears to be the OEM manufacturer.

remember there are three versions.
- manually adjusted and manuallly folded
- adjusted electrically and folded manual
- adjusted electrilly and fold electrically

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, another car hit it so I'm guessing someone broke it.

Both the glass and the mirror itself are motored, so I'll take a look for the model there. Wasn't sure if the motor and mirror were sold separately but if they're all one unit, that makes it easier. I'll try to pry the existing back off and reuse it because it's perfect otherwise.

Appreciate the recommendation for the part.

is the mirror also broken?
if it is it is better for you to remove the mirror first and then remove the back, as it is easir to remove the back with the mirror removed.
Don't hesitate to ask if you need more information as I already had to replace mine last July as I hit a column while parking :X In my case I broke it all, so I had to also paint the new one.

The mirror isn't broken but I'll remove the whole unit, replace it and then take the mirror out of the old one to remove the back plate as you say. Good shout as I wouldn't have known that. I've ordered the part from the brand you suggested. 44 pounds delivered for the heated motorised version so a pretty good deal overall.

Massive thanks for the help. I'll report back how I get on :)

Just realised I need to take the back off to remove it anyway. So I'll remove the mirror first.

Thanks again.

yes you need to remove the back in order to deisconnect the electrical connector.

besides that there is a screw to remove that is visible when the side mirror is folded (hidden under the rubber)

The bolt is hidden there.
Then the connector under the back and it is removed.

Perfect. I'll give it a whirl this weekend. I can move it manually to get at that screw easily enough.

Thanks again.
