Rotary noise from front wheels-wheel bearing?

Got a noise coming from the front wheels in the best way I can describe is like a helicopter! The noise get faster and louder with speed and is more dominant when I’m turning a corner (turning onto motorway slips roads are the worst as I’m at speed and turning). There is no vibration just the noise, could this be a wheel bearing or is it something else?

A humming noise would indicate a wheel bearing. Although it could also just be a characteristic of a worn tyre. A clicking noise, especially when turning can be indicative of a worn CV joint.

It’s not a clicking noise, it’s definitely a humming that occurs with each rotation of the front wheels, I know that my tracking was out and it’s just been sorting so my front tyres are a bit unevenly worn, could that cause the noise?

My Ibizas have both done it. Caused by tyres becoming stepped on inside. Is common on cars with the MQB platform. Remember Whatcar had a Golf on long term test which needed new tyres as a result. Replacing rears shortly as was an advisory at first mot. Roar is noticeable at between 30 and 45 mph.

Strange, my daughter has owned, from new, an Ibiza SC since November 2009 it has 215/40 17 wheels/tyres and has never suffered from abnormal tyre wear, in fact at its MOT this year, I had been waiting for all seasons tyres to arrive so it still had its old but legal tyres on it, which caused the tester to issue advisories on all 4 tyres though that was due to them almost at the minimum tread depth, well just less than 3mm across each one.

Same here but with different tyres, no abnormal wear.

Tyres were getting to the 1.6mm mark when I replaced them and the same on both sides.

More wear on the sides, not much, than in the middle though, but thats because I used SEAT specs for tyre pressure, they recommend for confort, now I use more 0.3 bar than spec.

Just to let everyone know it was a wheel bearing as I suspected, all sorted now, surprising how quiet my car seems now with that noise gone!

did you sort it out yourself? or did you take it to a garage? think i have a front bearing on the way out. Annoying considering its only done a tad shy of 40k miles.

I wanted to do it myself but didn’t have the equipment for it as the bearing has got to be pressed into the hub so I had a garage do it for me
