Temperature Gauge Reading TDI130

My Ibiza temperature gauge has never sat in the middle at 90, like most say.

But lately i have noticed the temperature gauge starts to read lower after coming home from a drive and just letting it idle.

I've hooked it up to Vagcom, and the temperature seems to only get to 70C, and if i disconnect the sensor it says there is fault, and vagcom reads around 60C.

Shouldn't vagcom read zero, or does it have a default value set?

Also why does the gauge still showing a temperature reading, with the sensor disconnected.

It depends if the gauge and vagcom taking their readings from the same sensor, sometimes you have two temp sensors one for the ECU and one for the gauge.

I had a similar issue, it was the thermostat being stuck open.
Swapped it for a new one and now have 90 deg as I should.

I am going to change the thermostat this weekend, hopefully if the parts arrive.

As for the sensor, i can only find the grey 2 pin sensor on the passenger side of the engine. Anyone know if there is another one, as I've searched google.

Last night i did an instrument cluster check using VagCom, it did the sweep on the temperature gauge but when came to its rest position It was just bellow 90c. So I've just reset the needle so that it stops at 90c.

Now i just need to replace the thermostat.

Take thermostat out and put the kettle on.
Once boiled let kettle stand 3 or 4 mins pour into an old mug
with your thermostat.
Thermostat should open.
Then remove from mug and watch it close.
If it doesn't open (or close) pretty quickly that's your
'Fault'.
Bear in mind I've never looked at a Seat thermostat but
In the 'olden' days I saw hundreds, be careful to put the new
One in the correct way round as that was something home mechanics
Used to get wrong very often..
