New leon FR 1.4 with some minor issues

Hi all,

I picked up my brand new leon fr tsi 1.4 around 10 days ago and have noticed a couple of issues and wanted to see if other members here have had any of these issues.

• I sometimes have problems getting into 1st gear and have to go back to neutral and release and re press the clutch before it will go in smoothly. It sometimes feels like there is resistance and it only goes half way into 1st gear. I don’t have a problem with any other gear.

• At idle in neutral I can fell some minor vibrations through the driver's seat,, it feels almost like a rough idle. Is this normal?

• Sometimes I get a funny electrical bleep / buzz noise which seems to be coming from the dash area. Any idea what this could be?

• Since picking up the car I sometimes getting very loud brake squeal (like a bus) when stop from slow speeds. I currently have only done 300 miles so far so hopefully this might cure itself.

Any body suffered any of the above issues or have any input / advise?

Thanks.

I too have had both the engine vibration and the first gear issue. As you say, feels like a rough idle but garage couldn't diagnose any issue.

The first gear problem doesn't happen very often but I have had it. A pump of the clutch pedal seems to solve it like it's not built up pressure in the fluid lines. It usually only happens when it is engaged before pulling away for the first time which I think backs up that theory?

Mine is coming up a year old with 18k so can't be anything too major (i hope)

Thanks for posting, my 1st gear problem seems to happen more often and I've noticed it lot after sitting in neutral in traffic or at traffic lights. It sometimes goes into 1st gear perfectly smooth, sometimes goes into 1st gear but feels notchy and other times will only go in half way into 1st gear.

The first gear baulking could be simply that the synchro dogs are butting together, dipping the clutch moves them. Or the clutch is not disengaging fully. Does the car creep when in revved first, clutch disengaged, and on flat surface? Where is the pedal bite point, very close to the floor?
It may improve with a few more miles.

The bite point seems normal and not close to the floor. In regards to the car creeping do you mean putting the car in 1st gear and letting out the clutch and seeing if it creeps?

After reading some other threads i'm thinking it might just need the gear linkage adjusting. Might be time for a trip to the dealers.

No. Keep the clutch pedal on the floor, take the revs up to 3 or 4k and see if the car moves at all. If it does even slightly, the clutch is dragging. Adjustment normally sorts it.
My other car had gear engagement and crunching issues when new, I had to change to a synthetic long life gearbox oil of a lower CsT rating to remedy it. But talk to your dealer about things like that.

When brakes are new, i think they have a protector coating. When you use more your brakes, i think this sound disappears. I would not worry.

I've never had a car that emits so many sounds after it's turned off. It sounds like it's breathing heavily. Even when you just get into it, it sounds like it's waking up and stirring itself.
Who would have thought the Germans would build character into a car.

Thanks for replying, they do seem to be getting better day by day. The car now has 450 miles on so hopefully by around 1k it will be totally gone. :)

I know exactly what you mean. :D

The sigh when you turn off the ignition worried me at first, now it just amuses me - kind of reminds me of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
