Without any error codes no-one will be able to give you any advice im afriad.

A remap if done correctly wouldnt cause the engine light to come on. So aslong as it was done by a decent mapper. Thats fine.

However, the engine light coming on could range so many error's from just a sensor to a turbo fault.

If you have VAG-COM or know anyone near with it, get the error codes and post them up.

Good luck.

Its an intermittent fault in the wiring loom usually around glow plug 2 or 3 I have it with mine it comes and goes. When it happens I usually swap the faulty plug around with another but you need vag com to identify which one is at fault

mine was the glow plug control module by the pollen filter there, is a drain hole there which got blocked with leaves then wen it rained or wen i washed it it filled up with water an corroded the pins in side the relay. it cost me 122 quid to get it done but luckly the garage i had it form refunded me the money. the relay was £48 and labour came to £62.50

I have had probs with my light coming on and a code suggesting a wiring fault to plug 3. What I have ended up doing is buying a new glow plug loom (£18) but as yet have not fitted it. Hope this cures my problem as I also replaced all my plugs 1 month ago!

ive been told that the glow plug wiring loom goes down underneath the battery sumhwere. main stealer told me that sometimes water gets into the loom and that knackers it up but this is very rare

I get the ECU fault light coming on sometimes. It only started happening once I ripped out the EGR valve. Turns out for me the issue is emissions, which it past with flying colours, so I just ignore the stupid light.

This is ok until you get a fault which you dont find out about unless you can interogate the ecu weekly with vagcom etc.

That's true.
I have a service every six months or less and I check on vag.com myself, partly to cancel the error code and get rid of daily fault, but mainly its because I'm a geek.

Ive had the glow plug on mine and the egr fault too. Changed the glow plug and the light went out, cleaned the egr and the light went out. The light has now come on again after 2 months, I'm so excited, what can it be now! I dont feel right unless theres a light on my dash, If theres no light I just turn the traction control off just to get an orange light.

To change a glow plug takes approx 5 mins!

Hmmm. Reading this thread with some interest. As far as I can tell I don't have a 'real' glow plug issue BUT have had vag-com faults that suggest glowplug issues with wiring faults to glowplugs 2 and 3 - it's a very long story, and is well detailed by Fester and I in the LCR twin fans thread around page 7.

When the warning light first came on the VAG specialist I went to said they wouldn't touch glowplugs because they were "tricky to do" and they'd have to refer me to "an engine specialist" for "a days work" to get them replaced. Smelled more than a little fishy at the time, and having read this thread I'm wondering were they attempting to fob me off?

Interesting that the wiring loom for glowplugs is under the battery compartment... as that's where the fans issue fix unit goes that's thought to be interfering and causing intermittent glowplug warning lights for Fester and I currently.
