Your neighbour was actually pretty near spot on... as a cheap and cheerful way of blackening rubbers and plastic trim you can use peanut oil or smooth peanut butter... its the oils that work. Doesnt last very long though as you would imagine and streaks like a b!tch.
AutoFinesse Revive - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine.../prod_952.html gets excellent reviews for its price bracket... some say its the best for the money. I havent tried it myself but my dad reckons its worked wonders on his Civic. There are a few other options here - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine...e/cat_105.html The likes of Wolfs and GTechniq are more permanent products. HTH, Nige

hi firstly thankyou for your replys being so detailed (no pun) i would like to know if in your experience would it be best to buy the longer lasting product like the wolf one? i dont begrudge paying more for good stuff and secondly thease products i take it are safe to use near paintwork but do you know if they react with vinyl wraped bodywork? many thanks joe.

Theres no doubt that the sealant / nano based products last longer (much longer usually) but they are more complex to use and need more careful prep and application.
Most of them need something like a thinners based product to remove once applied to this can be used on paint work if you overcook it. another option would be to tape up the edges to help prevent that from happening.
