yes low fuel light is on now used up 20 quid a fuel trying to get the regen going i`l give it another go mid week funny thing is just put 20 quid in the day before and the dpf light came on next morning, this be its 3rd in 12 months since new.

IIRC Low fuel light and cold engine prevents active regen
Cold engine and below 38mph will prevent a passive regen from happening.

Also best to use a steady 200 to 2400 rpm


But also agree with nightflight - could be a sensor.

I never had the light on with my Ibiza, but I always knew when it was doing a regen, it did too many of them in my opinion. 45,000 mile in 21 months and 132 regens!!
Got rid of the car and now have a Leon FR 170, I have done 7500 mile since June and have yet to notice the car doing a regen.
VWAG has serious problems with the 1.6 TDi engines, excessive regens and excessive fuel consumption

its ok just filled up first thing that happened was the revs went up to 1200 so set cruse control and went for a 6 mile slow drive and it went pop and the tone of the engine change back to normal light went out and all is well till next time.
so been stuck in standing traffic for 20 mins chokes the system, nice well thought out worthless bit of kit.

ps I not a slow driver I`ve got a lead foot and the last 3 weeks been doing some miles 3 times more than normal in 12 mths its done 2 auto regens and this one i had to do, i wasn`t sure if the warning was real due tot he fact we keep getting trailer bulb fault we not got a trailer and a few others.

No, the system gets choked bit by bit until such time as it gets cleaned out either passively by driving a decent distance so the exhaust gets hot enough to burn through the accumulated crap, or it dos an active regen.

2 Years ago I went out to do a run up and down the M1 for a bit to make sure the DPF was nice and clean before driving down to Cornwall as the last thing I wanted was to get stuck in traffic with a clogged DPF and unable to do a regen run.
After a 5 minute drive out to the motorway and then 5 minutes on the motorway at 2000rpm on cruise control the DPF light came on! If we apply the logic of whatever you're doing at the time the light came on is what caused the dpf to clog then regen runs cause dpf's to clog...

Humans are great at spotting patterns, it's what has kept us alive for millenia, but it also means we end up spotting patterns where none exist.

If you're getting errors I suggest you go to the dealer and get them to investigate as there are several people on here past and present who've had issues with exhaust sensors blowing/shorting/wiring being melted through (mine's been in for 2 separate but similar faults)

I've got a 2011 1.6 tdi and noticed today when arriving home after a six hour drive that the engine eas making a starnge sound when releasing the clutch and as I made my way through town (about two miles from the motorway) towards my house that on the two occasions I stopped, the engine was revving at around 1000/1100 rpm . If this was a regeneration cycle does anyone know if this should normally happen during the six hour drive (Motorway-Cruise Control-65-70MPH)?

In theory it should regen passively during a good steady motorway run - BUT I have lost track of how many times mine has been doing a regen at the end of a good run.

The dpf gets slowly filled however you drive - then it will start a regen to clear itself.

Thanks Deano, I'm sure the car has probably done regens before, think this is the first one I've noticed. Car is normally used for a 30/40min motorway commute. Got another 150 mile round trip tommorow, will see how it's going then.

do 1.4 petrols have differential pressure sensors? as i was told they dont...

Thanks for the reply, i was told that so i guess the guy was right. At the moment ive got the code p0402 whivh is the egr vavle disfunction, but the possible solution to that was to change the dpfe sensor but i dont have one so what should i chnge?

I've been finding that my car is doing fewer regenerations as the miles are clocking up, no deliberate change in driving style or car use.
Had the light on today for the first time in ages though it didn't come as a surprise as I knew I'd interrupted two regeneration cycles. I'm less worried about the DPF these days, it's pretty unnoticeable 99% of the time and the rare time the light comes on i've usually cleared it before I get a typical regen run suitable road anyway.

Had the DPF light on again yesterday, for only the second time since March 2010. I thought I'd post this because I had a Corsa CDTI as a courtesy car for a few days last week, I found the CDTI horrible to drive but appear to have a good regen system that was barely noticable, it seem to do lots of mini regens instead of one big one that can take over an hour in stop start motoring.

The engine management light had been flashing and the Emission Control System warning light has come on intermittently, but solid rather than flashing. The DPF light has not been on since September. The car was main dealer serviced last Friday and no fault codes showed!

I run a 1.6 diesel Ibiza on a "10" plate. Note that I had the EGR valve replaced in October.

Are these matters all related, possibly to the DPF? Any advice (and prices!) would be much appreciated!

They could be related

I have decided my next move will be a DPF delete/remap/egr delete all at the same time.

Far too much crap fitted to the cars today - the old school 1.9 from around 2001/2002 was one of the best motors they did. Easy to maintain, reliable, easy to remap.

I like the 2.0TDi but I want the simplicity of the older engine back.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I'm having the same trouble as others here. Before I list my problem please consider that I bought the car in Devon 3 weeks ago so it did a serious amount of motorway miles and I did a couple hours on the motorway last weekend as well! So I'm surprised to be having these issues and am hoping they are faulty sensors?

I have a Seat Altea XL 2.0 57 reg.

The pollen accumulation in the diesel engine particle filter light came on the other evening. It was late so I had planned to take the car for a run on the motorway the following day after work.

The following day when I got in the car to do this the glow plug light started flashing, then not long after the emission control system light came on as well and the car lost power and won't go over 3000rpm. All that had happened since the first light came on was my wife taking the kids to school and back.

I took to my local garage who recommended putting Wynn's diesel particulate cleaner and regenerator in the tank and driving on the motorway for an hour. I tried that and so far nothing. I did drop by the Seat garage but they had closed at mid day on Sat.

Been looking on the net for a while and tried disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu but the lights came straight back up again as soon as I reconnected.

I am going to go to the dealer but am just fiddling today and wondered if anyone had any ideas?
