I thought I'd do a fitting guild for the 42 Draft solid shifter bushes. I bought the from Awsome on tOm's tip off*http://www.awesomegti.com/42-draft-vw-shifter-bushing-set-mk4-5-6speed-my02-05

First you have to remove the rubber bush. I pushed the nylon collar out with my fingers and removed the rest of the rubber with a knife.*

As you can see there are two sizes of bush. The smaller diameter hole is for the side to side and the larger for the back to front.*

They are to small a diameter to fit so the needed to be opened up a bit. I did this nice and slowly with a punch, oil and wet and dry.*

When they just slid over the pin I oiled it lightly and slid it on (oh matron).

Then did the same for the upper part of the bush. Replaced the clip and all done.

There is no longer any slack in this part of the shift it's rock solid. It nice and easy to do. It just takes a bit of time to file them down.*

What exactly do these eliminate then? Also would they fit the pd150 6 speed box? cheers

As far as I know the six speed boxes are the same so yes it should fit. If you see the photo above you can see there is a alot of movement in the original bushes. Fitting these eliminate that and there fore the lose feel in the gear lever. If like me your bushes are very soft you'll notice a big difference. For the price they cost and the time they take to fit they're well worth doing.

Ok, cheers, so that forge short shifter you have, both that and these bushes would you say they make a considerable difference to selecting the gear? because mine is all over the shop. Which i take is the play in the existing bushes?

Trying to understand/picture the four different bushings or is it the case you have only used 2 of the 4 supplied? [or at least in the picture?]

If you look at the last two photos you can see in the first one the lower bush is on and in the second they both are. You put the retaining clip on and it holds them together.

Fitted mine today, they were a tight fit but didn't need any sanding. I'd advise attempting to fit them before widening the hole :D

Definately recommend them, really tighten up gear changes.

From what I can make out it's the Forge quick shift where the problem lies. Try and fit them first and if like mine your pin's to big work on the hole some more until it slides on ;)

It says MKIV 5/6 speed so it may be best asking Awsome. The other option is you could fill yours in with resin.

In Awesome ad it says "requires only slight modification to side/side endlink" what exactly does this mean/what do you have to do??

Have you even read the startpost ? Its right in there!

I saw the bit about using wet and dry to "open up" the hole a bit but then other person fitting didn't find this was required so just wondered if this was what they at least expect people fitting it to have to do or whether there was something else they were on about?
