DPF - Questions

Having read that there are problems tuning engines with DPF, can anyone advise:

- Is it a legal requirement for them to be fitted; presumably not, as the 140 still comes without

- What is the effect of removing it. Would it affect any of he ECU checks/sensors. If the answer to the first part is that it is not yet a legal requirement thne I wonder if it is possible to make the equivalent of a de-cat unit. Obviously the ideal would seem to be a higher capacity DPF, but often life is not that simple.

Thanks

As far as i know no tuning company in England has yet removed the DPF from a PD170 as it is wired into the ECU. If it is removed you will have to replace it for the MOT as i understand it anyway. If your still looking at tuning a diesel car for hill climbing the PD140 is a lot better way to go.

Thanks for the info - I am still waiting to see when/if the TT diesel arrives - and would suspect that it will come with the 170 DPF engine, hence my enquiry.
