As others have said, I'll drift around in 'D' most of the time, using the paddle-override if I want to prepare for something, like a roundabout or an overtake. I'll knock it to 'S' if I want a bit more fun* over a stretch of road and then back to 'D' for town etc. I have found that setting the engine in 'Sport' mode but leaving the DSG in 'D' gives a good setup - particularly noticeable are the downshifts under braking, which feel like they are sooner in this setup.

* oh wait, I drive a smaller-engined, cart-sprung version - I forgot, I don't want to have fun. Oddly, the fastest cars I have driven have all had DSG or automated manuals (M3, DB11, Vanquish, Vantage S, R8 V10+, Gallardo, Huracán, Aventador, I could go on).
