Hi all not quite a seat issue but i know you guys know your stuff, i have a 2002 bora sport tdi, 130bhp asv engine, tonight as i was doing my deliveries i attempted to reverse and struggled to get into reverse, after a little force managed to get reverse but now i dont have first or second gear and ive had to use 3rd gear starts to get me home, ive had the car a month and have had no issues with gearbox, its been selecting all 6 gears and reverse without issue since i bought it so i cant really see it being the gearbox at fault, has anyone had a similar issue before on the equivalent seat cars?

Just to note the gear stick does actually move to 1st and 2nd position but doesnt select the gears within the box, not sure if the selector on top of the gearbox moves as it was pitch black, ill give it a good look over in the morning.

are the new selectors made better? dont fancy getting it repaired for it to ever happen again, would of though VW being one of the most reliable car manufacturers to have brought out a permenant fix or a recall on the boxes that this is happening on

I had all my bearings and parts needed replacing at same time. I think the newer one is stronger. Clach heaton gearbox centre did mine. Think it's near presto somewhere. Anyway my gearbox feels like new was worth the money

well ive got a few gearbox specialists near me and few really technically minded mates who would prob be able to do it just waiting for them to send me some figures and ill hopefully have it done by midweek

I've seen them replaced in situ BUT for piece of mind we also have the box overhauled to make sure no swarf or foreign particles cause any damage to the rest of the box.

Well ive had a quote of £300 to have the car picked up box removed, stripped and repaired and refitted, 1 day turnaround, at a local gearbox specialist which i think is pretty good, or ive been told if i take the box out myself i can have it done for between £200-250 so now im thinking do i tempt taking it off myself considering ive only ever done 1 gearbox change and that was on a mk3 petrol mondeo or do i pay the extra cash for peace of mind
