hello everyone, sometimes i turn on the heater in my mk4 ibiza 1,4 , and it starts throwing cold air and sometimes its hot air, when the ac is on and the options are on hot it still gives cold air unless i turn off the ac and put it in econ mode.
so i want to check the heater core and possibly replace it, is it a doable job by myself ?

Remember it might just be a temperature flap motor failure, if you scanned that car with a VW Group compliant scan tool it would reveal most issues or fault codes.

One thing to try, demand Hi temperature, wait a few minutes, demand Lo temperature, wait a few minutes, repeat that maybe 10 times in an attempt to clean up the positional feedback track on the temperature flap motor, after doing that you might be able to get warm air out of that system if it was only a flap motor issue, if not nothing lost until you can get that car's systems scanned, and I mean all of them not just an engine scan.

Humm, only the defrosting flap motor showing as faulty, the procedure I suggested will be best tried without the AC (chiller) on.

I've not had a car with defrosting flap motor faulty, so I can't be sure if that would be causing your problem with cabin temperature.
