Hey peeps

A discussion with Tris made me think about this.

We've spoken about it before anyway, but couldn't remember the outcome of our convo....

I'm not very good when it comes to website design. I'm fed up of my www.leoncupra.co.uk site - the layout etc bores me, and i don't really have the time to spend and fix links, picture resolutions etc...

So, whats your opinions as to merging my guides onto the SCN main site?
It would mean re-doing my guides to have the same format/layout/colours/backgrounds etc, but I'm willing to help with this (if i can) so that we can guarantee that the url is available...

Kinda wondered what both SCN admin and leoncupra.co.uk users/visitors thought about this?

At the end of the day, so long as my guides are still attributed to me (as the author and photographer, nothing else) I don't mind if the SCN logo is on images etc.

Still happy to keep answering questions from users who email me etc....

What are your thoughts?

If peeps think its best to keep them as they are, I'll probably spend a while redoing the site, for something a bit more tidy, and go through all my images etc and get rid of dead images/links info etc.

Cheers folks.

Think thats a great idea mate. Alot of people link to your site anyway. Maybe it could be done as a whole LC guides section .

Would allow people to add to it as well then and allow questions to be answered on here/

Can't say I'm bothered where it is to be honest.

Just as long as it's somewhere. I've always found it very helpful for part no.s, guides etc.

W8 interior light guide came in helpful last week.:D

If you allow people to add to it, then it might be easier to turn it into a wiki format to allow easy collaboration?

It's very easy to add to our CMS pabs, if & when you want I can take it from where it is now quite easily.

Of course, you can be set as the author & it's just a case of copy & pasting (and a bit of formatting)

If desired I can create it as a subsection in guides

wrt the Wiki, that's "in place" but waiting upon some software

hmmm ok.

No problem with people adding more guides etc - if we could keep them all to the same chosen format ie Step1... step2... with pictures at each step etc....
Make sure all pics are the same resolution (thumbnails and expanded images)..

But yeh, we can do it at some point if you like. Once the guide section is up and running, I can redirect my URL directly to the new SCN page(s) for the guide.

m0rk - I don't just want to slap this all on you and the SCN admin team... if it needs someone to admin/monitor/tidy the guides section then I'm more than happy to help - if you need me that is :)

Nathanio - your HID guide/FAQ can be added to it too ;)
And my list of useful part numbers that's in a sticky....

Just had a thought though.... I *might* like to keep my URL and have a few webpages just for my car images/photos/spec and stuff?

But the index page etc will link to the new guides section on SCN... I can get rid of the email-me page and the links page etc too.

I think it would be very useful, I would imagine that there are other people out there wanting to write guides for other useful stuff but thinking there's "no point" because of leoncupra.co.uk

Also, having other members contribute to the guides section would keep the main body of a guide off the forums - start a thread to discuss the guide/ask questions/clarification etc, but keep the guide up to date. A lot of threads about useful stuff go on for pages and pages and the useful bits are often spread out.

I can set you up a login & a quick overview for the main site if that's the route you want to go down?

CMS is a doddle to understand anyway, so you'll be fine.

But I don't mind creating them, when we went live with the main site as it is now 2 yrs ago I created about 200 pages (now at >500!)

Whatever is easiest for you mate. TBH you're probably better at it than me anyway. But i just didnt want you to feel like I'm trying to dump the work on you.

How would you want to do it anyway? Can you just rip what you need from the webspace? The file structure of the website is quite easy to understand... you'd only need the guide folder for the .htm pages, and then theres individual folders for the specific images (thumbs & larger res) in the root path.

Or I can get everything together from the original word-docs i used?
Or I can move everything into folders you require, and then move my car photos and spec stuff to a slightly different path..?

Only thing if you do all the work, when people want to submit new guides, you or whoever would need to format them etc....

So long as its not too much work for you guys! you do a lot for us already!

I should be able to get it from how it is....

Will just take the source images, import them into the Gallery, then take the text...

It's not a big job to do really (famous last words)

It's all setup preformatted :)

Just copy & paste

We set it like that so all the pages apprear the same, and we can reskin them any time and they all get updated

ok then - i'll leave it to you!

Shout if you need anything, you've got my msn etc.

When its copied and up, let me know - i'll have a quick look and then modify my website etc :)

I assume you are copying the images/text to new files in a new location, so once completed i can just delete the ones in my site?

fantastic thanks mate :)

I'm gonna do a few bits to my website now (tonight) in preparation for the removal of the guides..

Gives me a chance to have a clearout and start again :)

But I'll download the entire site now so that I've got a backup/reference for the future.

Cheers mate - let me know when you're done (no rush at all, obviously) :D
