hi guys,

i bought an 07 2.0 tdi, I noticed a few faults, want to know if these are common and how to fix them, the windscreen steams up quite fast, and the blower only seems to work on full(setting 4) i figure this is due to some variable resistor ? but I'm new to this and would like some advice, i.e. is it a resistor, and if so how to replace one ? any tips step or links would be appreciated, also is it common for the windscreen to steam constantly ?

:help: :

The windscreen misting up could be water inside the car so check for wet carpets front and rear.

It could also be a comon mistake of having the recirculation button pressed. This stops fresh air coming into the cabin so you breth steams up the windows like at a dogging car park :)

Sounds like your fan speed resistor pack may be faulty if you have basic air con but if you have climate control you could have a faulty climate control display pannel.

Good luck.

I thought it might be the recirculation button i checked to see if it was stuck on but no, will check again but no sign of dampness :/

no it not climate control, so hopefully just the resistor then, do you know if they are easy to fit, or how to fit them ?

thanks

My fan don't work at all and it's sh*t! Now your problem seems to be easy. Go under passenger side dash undo 3 star screws from panel at front and two hand screws at back. Take this panel out and then when you look up their is 4 wires in the middle of foot well, put fingers round whole white box wires go into and slide left ( away from drivers side) then out comes resistor. I know they are about £28 from GSF or auto mill. N e probs post reply

The resistor block is normally stuffed into the air ducking quite close to the blower motor. It normally has one multi plug/socket with maybe 6 wires.

Here is a google image search so you know roughly what to look for

hi boys changed my heater resistor pack as indicated in this thread, same symptoms only worked on 4 setting, got one from ebay for a 10er said it was compatible.
after one days use it went again, i could smell the burning in the cab for a few seconds then it cleared the fans gone back to working on 4 only,
just to check does anybody know what should be the values on the resistor,i couldn't
read the original, the replacement had 240v/10amps on it.
is there another possible reason it would blow the resistor????
any info would be appreciated

cheers

I had two resistors blow before I thought to change the (very dirty) pollen filter. I then bought one off eBay which went again. After reading this post I'm wondering whether the problem lies elsewhere or did the other ones go because of the pollen filter and the last one because it was a cheap one of eBay.

on my 4th resistor now and this one seems to be ok
the previous ones all had the correct numbers on them from fairly reputable sellers on Ebay so maybe just got unlucky with a duff batch
but will post if there's a problem
