I see its all the 170 boys in here... well i'm on a PD140 and i've got an injector fault aswell. not fully knackered yet, only part working so the fueling is all ****ed in the car.

Reading a couple more reviews on Honest John that SEAT switched to a Common Rail diesel rather than the PD diesel from March 2009 on the Leon

I have just had to fork out £850 as my 4th injector went the day before i swapped my PD for my CR. Well gutted, its put a real downer on what was a perfectly reliable car! She certainly didnt want to get sold put it that way.

All the UK VAG cars have now dropped PD in favour of CR system. The last engine to go was the 1.9 TDi in the Audi A3 and FL Leon changed to the 1.6 CR.

Diagnosis was Injecter 1 failed... needs replacing along with the loom. costing 750ish... They think there is a good chance Seat will pick up a bit of that due to the age/service history.

Worth taking out the extended warrantee... I was going to but they messed me about at the time so forgot to sort it out in the end... think it was like 400 or 450 for the year...

this issue effects FRs and any other vehicle with the 170pd tdi engine due to how the ecu works. it does not effect the 2.0 pd tdi 140 or the 1.9 pd tdis - they'll still run with a faulty injector.

the faulty injector spikes the ecu and shuts the fuelling - this also throws up a main power relay fault.

it effects vehicle built around 6/2006 to 6/2007 but that doesnt exclude any others from the fault.

seat technical or VW uk wont issue technical bullitens on the fault because:

a. they know little about the cause

b. are not willing to recognise it as a commmon problem

seat uk are pretty useless with any major issues like this, it has no real giveaway signs and can just occur out of the blue, as most of you guys have found.

please feel free to ask me anything about the issue as i've dealt with a few.

And to follow on - the CR system was introduced as it has much better control of the emmisions to conform to the new EU regulations.

Provided you have things like the service history with SEAT, it still under 4 years old the garages can ask for a good will payment and will probably get SEAT to pay a % of the over all cost.

In my case they offered 30%, but when I phone in to thier main Customer services I got a shock as they when looking at it properly agreed to cover the full cost. Not Happy that it happened but I am impressed with SEATs response to my case. I you have the same as me as I think some one did make sure you put in for the Good will payment... they are aware of the FRs "frailty" and seem quite willing to take a hit on the ones that fail.

add my fr 170 tdi to this list 2 injectors inside 2000 miles ,first one covered under warranty at 59000,2nd one at 61000 was refused by local dealer ,but seat uk agreed to foot the bill : )

Add mine as well 3 injectors on my 56 plate Loan FR 170 TDI
And it's only done 120,000 miles

I've had exactly the same problem. No. 1 injector was changed about a month ago after the engine cut out completely on a winding country road. Luckily there was a layby that I managed to coast into. Last night on the way home some 5000 miles later I've had exactly the same problem. Cut out twice but managed to restart it on about the sixth attempt and limp to the garage. I had noticed that the engine had become a bit rough and that my fuel consumption had increased by about 5mpg but I had just changed the front tyres and changed to Shell V-Power which may have contributed.

The first replacement injector was faulty so they replaced it again before they even returned it to me last time. It cost £600 and Seat agreed to pay 35%. I'm going to contact Seat UK directly this time and try for the whole cost.

Oh and I forgot to mention that I had the ABS pump problem in August. That was £1000 with Seat paying 70%. VAG aren't exactly doing much to keep me as a future customer. This will probably be my first and last car from them.

Hello guys, I'm a newbie on here and want join the thread with problems with injectors! My car hasn't failed completly yet but its running rough intermitently with the engine note changing and not being able to accelerate or rev the engine and being stuck at what ever speed I am going. If you rev it while stationary it just stalls.

It has been back and fourth to the garage and they have hooked it up and they said there was a problem with injector number 4 and the turbo pressure being to low! But because it wont fail on them when they have got it they won't do anything. SEAT UK won't do anything either until it has failed at the dealer but they will cover some of the cost when it does fail or they find out what is wrong with it!

My car is 3 and half with 60,000 on the clock but it has been doing it for months! Sounds like it is eventually going to go like the rest of yours! What do you recon???

I'm surprised your still running, if i was you id prefer to foot a hefty bill, but go to another garage first and get a second opinion, they might even be able to fix it for you and send some of the bill to SEAT UK

No Seat Garage will do work before its Authorised by Seat UK, Because they could do the work and then Seat UK can turn around and say where not paying therefore the garage would end up footing the bill
