Evening all.

Looking at doing some track days this year. Just a few questions, first I'm guessing you need a helmet? And what about insurance? I'm pretty sure my insurance company won't be happy with me tazzing around a track so where do you guys get your insurance from? Also anything else I need to know?

Cheers

Helmet yes. There are companies that specialise in track day insurance....it can be costly so be prepared. A simple google search for track day insurance will bring up a fair few results, so happy shopping.

Best bit of advice I've had in the past: Do a maximum of 20 minutes per session on track to give yourself and the car a breather.

Edit: and have fun!

As above,

I'd recommend gettng an open face helmet, sweat ya tits off in a full face.

Insurance :- just don't bin it ! It's a track day not a race, theres rules obey them and you shouldn't come into contact with anyone, break down cover could be handy though , Drive to your limits, not the bloke in front or behind
Make sure your car is upto it, itll be hard on your brakes and tyres, I'd also recomend a second set off wheels if your planning on doing Afew,

20min rule is a good one, you'd be surprised how hard it is on you never mind the car , look for a sessioned track day that way you'll be on track with drivers of a similar ilk and reduces the amount of traffic compared to a open pit lane event

Which events are you looking at?

Cheers for the info much appreciated.

I've just been looking at the local track days but might avoid the open pit lanes like you've said.

Not looking at smashing the car around as I'll cry like a little girl if I bin it lol

Where's local?

I did my 1st trackday in the Leon last year,my first TD in a car I use for my daily commute so it was imperative there were no Mishaps.

There a video in my RR thread of croft circuit if your interested

I did manage to bust a drive shaft, not first mind you.i think it's down to using to much curb at the apex,so you might want to stay of them unless there smooth

I did Rockingham in December.....as it's only 5 mins from my house hehehehe Nurburgring a few years ago and Silverstone on my bike 2 years ago. It is immense fun and planning a few more this year.

Cheers lads. I live in Sheffield so not much local but close by lol.

I was looking at track days that you use your own cars but get an instructor, but can't remember where I saw it

I was planning on nurburgring last year but as a total track noob I decided against it.

And cheers I'll have a look :)

Agree with the advice re timing your sessions, also focus on smooth instead of fast and don't linger on your brakes. Cadwell and Oulton aren't a million miles away for you and both are excellent tracks, the park circuits (with gradients) never fail to amuse me track day insurance always has quite a lot of exclusions, so personally, unless it was included in my policy, I don't tend to bother. I've only just got my LCR, so I've not tracked it yet, but I imagine as a minimum you will need to put decent brake fluid and pads in, I'm sure someone else will comment. I've got Anglesey booked in June, with a caterham though, and Rockingham in August with the LCR. I'm also going to book Oulton and Cadwell, so maybe we can get a few of us going to the same dates?

Nurburgring is an amazing place, we used to go annually for many years, although haven't been for a while, it makes a normal track day look boring :O but isn't exactly the ideal place to learn track driving :)

I'm going to Rockingham with the SXOC, it's always a great weekend with a good bunch of drivers, I will get a link posted up soon...
