A bad photochop too! A K1/aerokitted Leon FR pre-facelift painted green and with Supercopa wheels and a poor R badge stuck to the front. :)

An R version won't be out this year and from a model year point of view it could even be classed as a MY2011 as and when it does become a reality. The R brand has yet to be confirmed as being resurrected.

The facelifted Mk2 Cupra MY2010 as already announced is expected to be here in the UK later this year. In fact may make it's UK preview debut next weekend at Brands Hatch when the WTCC rolls into the UK.

What i dont get about the new Cupra R is the figures floating about , 260BHP , 0-60 under 6 seconds , well i know my Cupra in standard form is over 260 bhp but i cant get to 60 in under 6 seconds , Revos stage 2+ k1 only just managed that, also noticed the weights are similar so it cant be that , is the extra traction down to the new electronic diff?
and if thats the case would that mean the time would get worse if the power was increased ?

267bhp is what a dyno is telling you though. When the first cupra R's came out some dyno's where showng 250bhp.

Chances are that if they do release a mk2 R with 260bhp it'll produce more on the dyno but thats just dyno lottery.

I agree , but the point i was making is that with 360 bhp from Revos leon they still struggle to get under the magic 6 second barrier , although admittedly they dont have an lsd fitted.
i just want to know what they have done to the new Cupra to achieve this.

as i said is it just around the new electronic lsd?

maybe the gearing is slightly different. currently the 0-62 requires a change to third, so a change in gearing or upping the limiter could do away with a time consuming gear change.

dsg could be a way but all the info about a cupra r currently is speculation.

I have an R32 DSG, and that changes upto 3rd just before 60, i'm getting a new map for the DSG soon which should raise the limiter so that it will only need one change.

i dont fancy driving a dsg , prefer manual , feels like you driving the car instead of just pressing the "GO" pedal.

I think that there is alot more involved than just pressing the "GO" pedal, i'm not going to knock manuals, but with the DSG you still have to control the break and in sport mode it holds the revs rather than just changing up (blips the throttle on change down which sounds amazing), it also gives you more control in the fact that you constantly have your hands focussed on steering and therefore your left with alot more feel from the road surface when slowing down for a corner, enabling you to judge earleir what grip you have, rather than slow down, left hand off wheel to change gear etc.

Personally i like both manuals and dsg, dsg has the advantage of when you aren't up for an involved drive you can potter around with minimal effort.

dsg has its plus points but it is no manual, another annoying feature is if you are at a junction and in the alleged manual mode then when the steering wheel is turned the paddles can be upside down leaving you to either hold on to the gear or rev the nuts off

reading a few motoring websites, they seem to think that the new cupra R will be revealed at the frankfurt motorshow, and could be on sale before the end of the year?
