Currently own a Leon 1.9TDI Stylance and a 2.0TFSI FR. The 1.9TDI was remapped before the turbo went pop recon turbo was put in and the power has never been the same so far I've done the following: New MAF, New EGR, New Glowplugs, Leak Test, Remapped again the car is a PD105 that was at 145bhp it still has the same remap on it and runs like a PD105 when I floor it there is a lot of unburnt fuel that comes out the back which never happened with the old turbo, the unit itself appears to be highly reconditioned with blades intact and no shaft play and from a reputable company called Precision Turbos. Furthermore I was advised not to adjust the actuator as it was already set. Not sure what to do VAGCOM had the following codes prior to new parts EGR Insufficient Flow Detected and 3 Glowplugs Short to ground. I have cleared these codes and they haven't seem to come back after I have changed parts and the car does run fine with no EML lights just underboosting.

Any help would be much appreciated as I did make a thread on this before to no resolution. :(

Its the turbo..... simple as that. See it with 95% of all recon tdi turbos

Vcds logging of boost control will confirm

Yep, is that yours?

Incredibly laggy, never meeting requested despite the N75 asking for plenty of boost. The turbo geometry has not been set up correctly and needs doing so. Turbo under warranty? If so i'd go back to the manufacturer and inform them that the turbo has not been set up correctly, and see what they say, or if a garage supplied & fitted it, go back to them

Yes that is mine, The car does feel incredibly slow had a Mini Cooper One 98bhp pass me! The car is remapped however maybe the turbo isn't up to the job to meet the requested? I did have a chat with the manufacturer and all he said was the turbo actuator was set up to manufacturer standard and there's no point adjusting?

You barely have any boost, no wonder it's slow. It's not even making standard boost

Other possibilities would include a bad MAF (fuelling is controlled by the MAF.... no fuel = no boost, Boost leak, or the turbo.

My money is on the turbo - i've heard the same thing from many a manufacturer of re-con turbos. Most use cheap chinese parts although claiming genuine Garrett (which they are not), and few have the correct equipment to flow test and calibrate the geometry of the turbo

I think you have probably found the solution to my problem as a new MAF, Boost leak test has been done to no affect which rules out the turbo I think it's time to return! Many thanks for your help! (Side note) Would it be better to buy a Used turbo instead or go all the way and get a new one thanks.

There are other possibilities, but if all was well before the turbo was replaced then this would be my prime suspect.

May be worth getting a proper diagnosis complete at a VAG specialist

I had a recon turbo in my pd130 after it blew. I had the same problem. It was slower and not as punchy as it was before. but I just learnt to live with it as I too posted a thread and was promptly informed recons are never the same and aren't usually set up correctly. Probably not what you want to hear but just letting you know your not the only one. To be fair I just left it at that because I bought recon for a reason, being that I couldn't afford a new one and also if I was to send it back to be set up correctly it would mean a another ball ache of taking it all off again. being without the car then a lot of cursing when refitting again probably only to find out not a lot has changed.

Glad it's sorted mate, any chance of returning the shoddy one to the company you got it from?

New turbos are the only way to go unless you have the time, equipment and know-how to set the turbo up yourself

Thanks mate, and they are making up every excuse in the book to refuse return I'll have to try another approach. In the future always new.

Sale of goods act mate. Unfit for purpose. If you paid for it on a credit card, even better.

http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/section-75-of-the-consumer-credit-act

Phone the citizens advice and they will sent you a draft letter, and will tell you to send one to the company and one to your credit card company. Let them fight it out amongst themselves.

I did this with a set of tyres on my Focus ST. Bought 4 Vredesteins and they were awful, wouldn't balance up properly and drove horrendous. Local rep wasn't interested, so did the above and got a credit note to the full value for a new set of tyres ;)
