Hi All

Ive had my cupra tdi for 3 weeks now and been battling a squeeking sound from the front passenger wheel.

Now when i first noticed it was really loud but only really heard at low speeds with windows down, and it wasnt constant... more of catching noise as the wheels turned but exactly the same sound as squeeking brakes.

The garage where i bought it cleaned em all up (shaved the pads) and gave it back which kind of sorted it... but the noise became more noticebale after the car became warmer.

So it went back again... this time they re-surfaced the discs and pads all round and this did sort it out however i can hear it now and again at slow monuveurs (car parks etc) but at normal driving speeds its fine!

I have also noticed a 2mm gap between the discs and pads... the drivers side seem to touch the discs... as do all other cars i have looked at...?

Please help... would changing the discs and pads for new ones help or ...?

Cheers

ok so done a bit of research and squeeks are common on Seats, but this is whne the breaks are not applied.

Also found out about the gap between the pads and discs... this shouldnt be but i have no idea how to correct it... eg change the brakes or the calliper is at fault etc??

Some one please help?

Cheers

Wheel noise

I had a similar noise from my car, only when the wheels were off of straight. It turned out to be the wheel bearing. It had not gone, but was not as tight as it should be, so the same effect. This was allowing the wheel to rock slightly and so the top of the disc was catching the pad. This force was also driving the pad back further than the other side. Might be an idea to get the wheel hub nut checked for the correct tightness. A decent garage probably will not charge for this.

hmmm that's quite interesting does the disc need to come off for me to tighten the nut? Or is this done by simply taking the wheel off?

Also the distance between pad and disc is the same eg even spread across the whole surface of the pad... Was yours the same? The gap is not getting any larger it seems as if the pistons may not of been compressed when the pads were changed. Gonna let some take a look at it tomorrow.

Tonight as I pulled up in drive in straight line the breaks squeeled so I'm a little lost

Grrrrr I hate squeeking LOL

Well been to the garage... mate of mine who took the wheel off and had a look

Got two issues with the car... one the inside of the brake disc has a score line cut into it a week after having the discs re-surfaced!!! Something not right so i have got new discs and pads on order.

Second issue is there is excessive play from left to right when you wiggle the wheel... this has pointed to the steering arms.. tie rod ends... going which from what we can gather is a normal SEAT thing as they bought out a modified replacement but at £75 a side isnt cheap!!! and if isnt replaced can lead to damge to the steering rack!

Anyways having it all sorted next week at a total cos of about £400 i reckon... but hey at least it should all be ok now!!!

Cheers...!

Oh and on the way back to work i got caught speed... GRRR SAFTEY CAMS!!! ticket in the post im guessing
