Just recentely purchased a leon and always thought the turbo was noisy from the cabin, anyways driving on motorway, turbo has failed, Im just awaiting RAC to arrive but now the turbo works again and there is no cabin noise, has anyone had a similar issue?

Why do you suspect the turbo and not something else?

Unless some kind of obstruction is causing the vanes to sticking, if a turbo packs up I would be surprised if it just came back to life again with no problems. Might be worth taking the hose of the intake side and seeing if the shaft spins freely and that there is minimal play in the shaft.

Maybe an EGR issue or blocked vanes as Speed-Freek said, seen this happen on a lot of diesels that haven't been driven under heavy load now and is common on most PD engines.
