Its strange because I heard a similar thing from someone in our Fleet Department that deals with Seat Fleet.

I just thought yeah right, but more and more reputable sources seem to have this info from somewhere. Could be worth keeping more ears to the ground as they say.

won't that just make it a cheap R32 - I can't see it. My money is on a higher output 2.0T

annoyingly C4 are just showing pics of the FR Leon that's due to be released next month, and I had it on good advice that the Cupra hadn't been started on development.

what's going on with the jacked up model I don't know - but since the golf+ isn't exactly rolling out the doors of dealerships I can't see why the niche brand would think it's a good car to do as well.

Can't see why one manufacturer would produce so many variations of a sporting model at the same time. it just gets confusing for the punter. Allready there seems to be a TFSI, then FR, the Cupra. If you end up selling all at the same time, then they just end up pinching sales from each other, not from other brands. What usually happens with other makes is the highest and lowest models prove the most popular. The TFSI will sell to people who don't want the max-power-ish look of a Cupra and don't want to pay for it, and the Cupra will sell to the people who want the power and looks. The FR gets stuck in the middle as a Jack of all trades but master of none.

Audi for example seem to sell lot's of A3's either at the 2.0 fsi or diesel sport level. They also seem to sell a decent amount of 3.2 quattros. However you rarely see any 2.0 quattro sports because they are stuck in the middle.

with the cupra supposed to be 240bhp i can't see the point the the bigger engine unless its going to put out quite a bit more power as in leaning towards 300bhp

Twaddle, theres more 2.0TQ's sold than 3.2's due to the horrific fuel consumption on the 3.2. Go and have a look on Tyresmoke and Audi-sport, there's loads of posters on there with them... what have I got... ??? oh a 2.0TQ  ;)

Just got off the 'phone from the Dealer that provided my TFSi. He said he was ringing round all TFSi owners he'd sold to to tell them about the future resale value.

He said that the TFSi was being withdrawn from production in week 21 and would be totally replaced by the FR. His spin was that this was positive as the FR 'would cost a fair bit more' and was effectively the same model. He wouldn't comment on the BHP of the FR compared to the Sport which I think WILL make a difference come resale time.

I'd be suprised if they drop the 2.0 TFSI, as the Golf has both 150bhp and 200bhp in it's range.

So if the TFSI is discontinued that would make sense as it keeps the model range simpler. Suits me as I prefer the 'sleeper' look of the sport. As for resale values we'll have to wait and see I guess, but I guess the TFSI will be worth a few hundred less than the FR in a few years time, which will probably make them more attractive to buyers. I suspect however that the more fully-loaded TFSI's will struggle to make more than 2nd hand FR's though, even if they are better equiped.

As for the A3 quattro's ... You might be right Cupramax just going on what I see in my area, the place is crawling with 3.2 A3's in Berkshire

Hmm... all right then! Maybe the TFSI will be "released" by the FR... but IMO, I still like the "understatement" of the TFSI! - Because when people look in the rear mirror, they really can’t tell the difference between a 1.6 or a TFSI... and I find that a bit satisfying! No worry… They’ll learn the lesson when they are overtaken and get a glimpse of the twin-tailpipe and - if they reeeeally look - the little TFSI sign on the side of the car!)

By the way: It will be interesting to see the real power-output of the FR... cause unofficially a TFSI produce not 185 hp, but almost 200 hp (I have seen 3 different rolling road test’s all showing 198 hp)!

Yes... exactly the same output as in the Golf V GTI! - What a surprise...)

may the farce be with you
it sounds to me, as if they'll re-release the sport as the FR, that way they can put the cupra with the 200 brake tfsi.. then they wont put the 3.2 in anything as it would compete with the r32 and 32.q audi.

besides, there currently isnt a higher output TFSI engine (to my knowledge anyway) and surely they'd have put this in an audi or a vw.... even the new TT doesnt have a higher output and thats not going to be available for 6+ months..

this is what they did with the mk1 cupra in the beginning, or was it half way thru.. they had a "cupra" and a "20vt sport" as separate models, but i cant beleive theyd make the same mistake twice.

my money is on the following:

"sport" renamed FR - 185bhp engine, revised body kit/wheels
"cupra" released. 200bhp engine, bodykit a la "aero kit" and bigger wheels
somewhere during the above 4wd may come in to it. but i doubt it would be on the cupra, maybe a specific model.

fr will be 200bhp

cupra is 240 bhp

4x4 nah dont think so

neither will use the aero kit

So the TFSI has an actual figure of 198bhp ?

I seem to remember Top Gear reporting in their last series how manufacturers are being quite modest in the actual power outputs of their cars to play down to the green lobby. Particularly Audi with their RS series I think.
