Water in foot wells - please help!!

Hi all,

I am looking for a solution to the leaking door seal/ water in footwell problem for my Leon mk1. With all this rain we're having in the lovely British summer there has been a puddle of water in the passenger rear footwell. There has also been water in each other footwell, but it's particularly bad on the passenger side. I have noticed that I get a foot shower every time I open one of the front doors as water is collecting in the foot plates.

This seems a common problem so would welcome advice/ link to a guide wich has worked!

Also, any ideas how I can easily dry the underlay underneath the carpets? Although I have used a vax machine to suck up a lot of water, there is still a squelch!!

Would welcome any advice as the smell is getting worse!!

Cheers all.

Ed

The dealer will sort it for labour of 1 hour per door or you can DIY it as suggested above.

Will it please stop raining!!! Have finally worked out that the water is getting in through the pollen filter - the filter itself is wet and can also see water down air intake housing.

Any ideas for a solution? Should I replace the pollen filter plastic cover etc? Have Seat updated the cover in the knowledge of the problems owners have had?

Cheers.

I've heard that's a common leaking place, either the cover is damaged or as stated the filter etc isn't placed correctly

Heard some people run a bead of silicone under the pollen filter, but there must be another way of sorting it out, otherwise you'd be creating a water trap under there

Strange because I have havent changed the pollen filter in about two years and it's only just started leaking so I am thinking the cover/ seal needs replacing. It is quite water marked.

Well, I thought the problem was sorted...wrong!!

I am getting a lot of water underneath the carpet underlay in the passenger side front and rear footwells. The top of the underlay and carpet is dry.

If it was a problem with the door seals, does the water somehow make it's way underneath the underlay?

Water only collects in the front passenger door plate, you get a waterfall on opening the door. Would the front passenger door leak explain the water in the rear footwell - I.e can the water travel from the front footwell to the rear?

Got towels shoved underneath the underlay to dry it up.

Becoming a real pain.

You really ought to take a look at the link Lee posted, but in essence all those questions can be answered with a 'yes'.

Cool, thanks guys. I am going to tackle the door seal fix. Have you got a link to the butyl sealant tape? Which thickness should I get?

I used door frame sealant (like bathroom sealant but for outdoors) from wicks!
Used it to seal the seakers that I replaced and around the bottom of the panel that leaks. Managed to stop the leak without removing the inner panel.
Once the water had stopped coming in, I cut out the underlay (sound deadening) from where it goes up againt the transmission tunnel (front and rear passenger side), dried out in the airing cupboard, then put em back in

Hope this helps

I give it six months to a year before you're going back in to fix the fix...

When i did my doors, they were coated in three different type of sealant, they had all failed. One roll of butyl and its not leaked since.

Does butyl go where the original sealant used to be?
