Although there is a load of information about the MK3 Cupra exhaust system being fitted to the MK2 I can't find any specifics relating to my question...

Can you fit just the back box or does the whole cat back system have to be fitted because the diameters are different?

I was lucky enough to aquire a system today but the condition of the middle silencer is a bit iffy so if possible, would just like to fit the back box.

Cheers guys

The mk3 is larger diameter i'm afraid - I was looking at doing the same thing (though I have a full mk3 system in good condition, just that my middle mk2 box is like brand new). Will need to sleeve the two diameter pipes together.

mine is off a mk3 R was same diameter and fitted straight on

i believe the 8v is the one that causes problems and definately need a reducer for the 1.4 as i've done that

you will also possibly need mk3 mounts - i have with each one so far but they angle the opposite way so easy to check first

Hmm. Mine def isn't the same diameter, larger than the origninal bosal mk2 system that is on there at the moment. Looks like you will just have to try it and see what happens
Oh and mine is a 16v

I put one on a 1.4 ( my old red one ) and had to use a reducer sleeve, got one in the shed now waiting to go on my 8V just looked last night as i was in the shed, and i was quite happy to see that the hangers seem to be on the same sides

I got one put on by a mates brother down at quick fit (tis a little too low to have angled the pipe over the rear beam on my drive, 2mm more down and it wouldn't have gone on or come off!!)

This is on a 1996 late spec 2.0 8v agg. Went on fine, no troubles, needed the centre pipe though and nothing else!

Thanks for the replies gents. I've got both parts of the system now so will fit it at the weekend provided I don't need any mounts etc.

I'll report back with pictures for everyones records!
