NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, don't confuse the issue. 433.92 IS THE ONLY FREQUENCY, anything that says 433 or 434 on it still transmits at 433.92. Some parts knock off the.92, others round it up o 434 but the frequency is 433.92

that would be very bad practice if that is indeed true, i however don't believe it is

Where can i get the SEAT emblem (logo) for one of these keys? I read a post on here refering to a part number for it but SEAT say that the number don't exist. Does anyone have a spare they wanna sell?

...the blade itself also has a code for the immobiliser although i do believe any decent keymakers can do this?

Not being deliberately picky (well, I am but this threads all about clearing up confusion) but the key blade itself is just a strip of metal AFAIK

There's a little electrical do-hicky about the size of a grain of rice which is hidden on the opposite side to the flip button (prise out the badge and unscrew the top half of the fob to see the bit I mean) which as I understand it talks to the immobilizer

... and then there's the half with the buttons that works the central locking (on 434~MHz frequency)

If any of the above is incorrect, I'd like to know cos I was hoping on just getting the key blade cut to match my existing locks and using a new keyfob with a different engine and ECU

Also, what is it that SEAT (or any VAG dealer) do when they charge you for the code to put in VagCom for coding keys ?? Cos it sounds like Timpsons can code the immobiliser chips

I have learnt alot about the subject of Key Transponders in my quest to get my flip key coded to the car..

I first read both the VIN and Immobiliser numbers from my car using the VAGCOM 'Instruments' screen.

I then spoke to my friendly dealer, who simply took the VIN and Immobiliser numbers over the phone and applied for a SKC for me on the SEAT computer system. The SKC came back from SEAT a few hours later.

I then just used VAG com and followed the Ross-Tech procedure to code an IMMO-3 car. Worked a treat (eventually!!).

On the subject of Timsons, they can't actually code the immobiliser chips, as when they put my original key in their machine, no codes could be read. The guy said this was because it was a crypto key. He demonstated what happens with a non-crypto keys by puting his own Peugot key in, and loads of numbers came up. The SEAT keys are deffo crypto Transponders, which can't be cloned.

Best of luck.

Yep, if you simply connect to the Instruments Controller (can't remember its number, but 17 on my Tolly I think), both the VIN and the Immobiliser numbers are listed in the Extra's field.
Easy to spot, the VIN is 17 digits, and the immobiliser Id is 14 digits.

My car was supplied new by Listers in Coventry, so called them..
Apparently, the dealer that supplied the car is the best bet, as they should have the neccessary records, but in my case as they changed hands a few times, they didn't. Had to provide V5 doc as proof of ownership etc.

I was lucky, as was given a 4 digit SKC, so didn't need all the other rubbish (workshop code, importer code) that you need if you have a 7 digit SKC code.

Good luck with it all..

i thought someone had a converter to convert 7 digit to 4 digit

naaaa

depends on the year of ur car....think in late 2002 /2003 they changed to 7 digit ones...

mine is a 4 digit one, i may well get in contact with the original garage and have a chat with them see what they can do for me!

thanks for the info Andy!

Vagcom will convert the 7 digit SKC to a 4 digit one for you..

The way I understand it (and I may be wrong) is that the 7 digit SKC is just a encrypted version of the 4 digit SKC !!

I was told that to un-encrypt a 7 digit SKC, you also need the date on which it was generated, and the Workshop code and importer code of the dealer that generated it.. But as I said earlier, Vagcom will do all this for you. Only thing is, that once Vagcom has un-encrypted it for you, it doesn't actually tell you what the 4 digit SKC is, it just fills the Login box with 'XXXX'..

Whole lot af hassle really, so hope you get a 4 digit like mine, so then you don't have to bother with all that un-encrypting stuff..

Just to add this, our driver at worktook a pugeout key to a local key place today to get a spare cut which we were then goin to get coded at pugeout, to his surprise the guy asked if he wanted it coding, yes obvious answer, the guy the took the key into the back room and came back out a few mins later with the key and sed there u go all done, we tried it at work and everything is all ok, ????? how is this done, the only way we could explain it at work was the guy must have a machine which reads the code off your old key somehow and then puts it into the new one, my question now being if i took him a flip key for my mk3 ibiza cupra would he be able to just read my old key and then take the info off tht to program the flip key, and im abit confused, can someone please state clearly which flip key is needed of what type of vehicle for a mk3 2000 x ibiza cupra please.

All this fuss over a flip kep? LOL! It's only a key you put in and twist! Why does it need changing?
