hello

ill make this short

clutch pedal not returning to normal position(rising couple inches)
biting point really close to floor ( gears grind sometime)

clutch is cable operated

the clutch pedal can be lifted with very little effort but fall to the floor.

CARS IN Garage and the garage has checked everything without removing the gearbox but can't seem to tell me whats wrong.

been told £300 for replacement clutch

does it sound by the above that it is a worn clutch or something else.

car is
Seat Ibiza CLS 1.4 1994

thanks for the help

Sorry to say mate - but it sounds pretty much like the clutch springs have gone, which means a new clutch.

£ 300 does sound like a lot for a new one tho.

My local factors are showing a clutch kit ( that's cover, plate & bearing ) from £ 64 - 86.

here's the link

http://www.livingstonautoparts.co.uk/clutch/Clutch-Kits/Seat/Ibiza/all/1.4/1994/Parts.aspx

and they probably aren't the cheapest either.

I'd phone around to see about a better price, and see if you have any clutch specialists in your area, as they'll often be cheaper than a normal garage.

Hope you get it sorted OK

Thanks for the reply

BAD NEWS- it turns out it was the dreaded pedal box (weld split and the plastic thing connecting clutch to clutch cable), resulting in the clutch pedal not rising and low biting point

GOOD NEWS- as I got AA Breakdown repair cover they will pay for repairs to the pedal box

BAD NEW- I got to pay for new clutch to be fitting which sucks.

hello again

since getting the car back it has started "CRUNCHING" when selecting reverse gear.

it doesn't do it all the time but its only started doing it since the new clutch has been fitted.

any ideas

Could be either

a) - clutch needs adjusted - maybe not fully disengaging

or

b) - gear selector needs adjusted ( don't know if yours is cable or linkage ? )

My gear selector on top of the gearbox had moved slightly ( the cables were fine ) and caused similar problems.

Either way - take it back to whoever fitted the clutch and get them to fix it - it's under warranty.

its been nearly a month now and the clutch pedal has stated to go wobbly again.

I can move it side to side with my hand about 1/2 inch.

also when pressing the clutch I can hear a low squeak.

any ideas
