Puncture!

Rather annoyingly (when is a puncture anything but annoying!?) after only 3,000 miles I have suffered a puncture ... I'm currently running on the spare so here is a good time to make a few comments

spare is a full size wheel/tyre but 15" not 17" - now limited to 50mph (yawn!)

nonetheless, the punctured 17" wheel/tyre has fitted into the wheel well, a good result indeed!

I have had to buy a new tyre, the supplied Bridgestone tyres gat a shocking fuel economy rating, and not exactly the best handling report for wet weather driving either

I purchased the tyre online for fitting at a local high street tyre specialist ... much cheaper than the drive in price - any anyway no-one seems to have these tyres in stock "off the shelf" but at a central depot for next day delivery

In time I am going to investigate replacing the spare with a full size unit, even if just plain steel wheel to avoid the 50mph yawn - possibly using the less worn of the original tyres

great pity SEAT fit such unusual size wheels to these cars, no option for Michelin CrossClimate tyres which is my preferred tyre as it covers summer & winter driving so well

Which tyre has the awful fuel rating? Black circles have 3 different Potenza RE050A in our size all with different labels.

E C 72

F B 72

C A 71

Which one have we got? the last 2 versions are the same price and one is clearly a better buy...

I cant find a 5x100 17 inch steel anywhere. You'll likely have to buy an alloy.

If the Bridgestone we have is the Economy C Wet Grip A Noise 71db, I'd say it's pretty good.

Shame cross climates rarely go down to 40 profile. (only 225/40R18 in fact)

Price - I purchased elsewhere and paid considerably less for a slightly different spec Bridgestone tyre .. fitted today, seems to be fine, hopefully no more punctures and come next year late summer when I will be close to 20k miles will review market to see the options for 4 new tyres

You'll be waiting longer than that. The OEM options on these are chosen for long life.

My OEM Conti Premium Contact 2 on the last one did 35000 miles and still had 3mm on all round. The horrible Dunlop SP Sport Maxx alternative may have been even harder wearing.
