Right lads I can get my hands on a new steering wheel with airbag controller from a 1.4 DAB with steering wheel controls. Just wondering how I would go about removing it. I dont want to remove mine think I will pay someone to do mine incase I break the controller. But I will have to remove it from the one at the breakers yard, so any info is much appreicated.

I'd ask the people at the breakers to remove it.
The charge in the air bag is a fairly major thing and is not to be messed with.
You might want to consider asking a local Seat dealer to fit the new wheel so that you have peace of mind knowing that it'll work.

Regards Guy.

Airbag should be fine if no battery.

Im not 100% about this or sure if it is the same on the newer wheels, but:

There are 2 slots in the back of the steering wheel on each side. Turn wheel 90 degrees to the right and then stick a flat-head in the slot which should now be at the top. Push back of screwdriver up so it levers the clip holding the airbag in. Repeat while turning the wheel the other way. Airbag should be released...Straighten wheel then use a screwdriver to unclip the connector. Then I think just undo the bolt holding the wheel on.

Can't help thinking there are too many 'if's', 'but's' and 'it should be OK' in that your post mate.
Personally I'd leave it to people who do this for a living.

way I see it is that it aint gona go off without any power unless you are really daft with it. Not going to put it in myself just incase I break the airbag controller in my car but if I can get it off at the breakers with no worries Im sure it wont cost the earth for someone local to put it in for me.

Well as I said, this is how you remove the non-stereo buttoned wheels and im not sure if the new ones have the same release mechansim. And the technique is from Seat themselves :)

The airbag can't go off if there is no battery connected.
