Loud Ticking noise from Engine

i also have this tapping ticking noise from the drivers side of engine its sounds like

and from the pd150 arl mk 1 engine

I have a ticking noise like this. It sounds like an exhaust leak from one cylinder due to the speed but, if i put the clutch down, it gets worse. It's horrible and is really disconcerting.

I'd say both of the following are different problems:

more than likely either a clutch bearing or the DMF(dual mass flywheel) if the clutch affects it.

I have a 2.0 TDI Leon Mk2 just done 50k and had my belts replaced at 44k. It does this odd clicking, tapping noise when the engine gets hot, and especially when i'm stop starting in traffic. I can't tell you how much I HATE this ruddy noise. I take pride in my car and it makes me want to sell it and get a petrol, such is its annoyance!

Did anyone get to the bottom of this?

This sounds like the problem to do with a plate in the gear box warping or else the air con pump.

jwarnette, sounds like you have the problem I had.. It can be fixed and isn't at all terminal

My ARL engined Golf makes a loud rattly ticking when cold for 15ish seconds and gone all day. It goes when clutch pressed which made me think DMF rattle, but local VAG specialist said no. Suggested oil change on box and an additive for wear n tear. But there is a plume of smoke comes from the engine upon start up at the back. Is it maybe a hole in the exhaust and a heat shield rattling?

Sorry if this is a delayed bump but my car has just developed the 'tapping noise'
Garage say its the tappets and say the block might have to be refurbed. Looks like it will be an expensive job (1200 at minimum). Or does anyone else have any ideas as to what it could be?

Clicking tractor engine sound

Well lads,

Im in some trouble with my 2002 1.9dsl seat toledo! I was on the way home from the supermarket went over a small ramp (softly) I wasnt going hard or anything and the engine started to make a clicking noise and sounded like a tractor! I thaught I had gathered somthing on the road so as the car lost power even so I pulled up.

I decided to head for home and only got about 9 miles out the road when the car (which sounded terrible) cut out and the engine died.

I towed her home and it will turn over grand but will not start. Any idea what this could be or what went wrong?
