now now folks, Ive been browsing on here for a couple of months now, but have finally decided to sign up to share todays tale of woe!
was driving the FR today, went to accelerate out of a residential area without even giving it the beans, when the car lurched, lost power and proceded kick enough smoke out of the exhaust to disguise an army regiment. I was only a mile from home so thought id attempt to gently get it home when the oil light comes on. Admitting defeat, I pulled over to be greeted by this mess up the back end!

the recovery fella couldnt tell me what was up but suspected a blown turbo or oil filter:cry: bad times:cry: Its getting looked at by the garage in the morning like, anyone else want to hazzard a guess as to whats gone wrong?!
luckily the warranty runs till the end of march!

Turbo fault is my guess, only reason I could see it spewing oil out the back like that.

Nice mess !
What age & mileage is it ?

its a 2005, and just clicked 50k. Was serviced and mot'd last month but I guess a turbo problem doesnt really jump out in a service.
Wouldnt be so bad if I hadnt spent a fiver going through the car wash yesterday like!

Am I correct if I say that the factory warranty is 2 years unlimited mileage with the third year being the dealer extension?

the garage have been on today and said its a cracked turbo and the oil its chucked out has clagged up the exhaust. apparently the turbo is quite common. they are stripping the engine to make sure its ok but reckon it should be fine as I got it turned off as soon as the oil light came on.
must just be wear on a faulty part cos its not like I abuse the car either. I prefer to see some good mpg!
just hoping the first owner took out the extra years warranty otherwise it'll probs be the best part of 1k to have fixed!

They came with the 3rd year dealer warranty as standard (if purchased in the UK).

I presume it's a Seat dealer who are looking at it ?

its currently at a local garage just outside Durham that carries out warranty work, but im guessing id be correct in saying it will need moving to a seat dealership in order to take advantage of the 3rd year of warranty.
all our cars get serviced at this garage and the manager knows us so we got it towed there first as we werent sure where the local dealership is! turns out theres one in durham 3 miles away so if need be it shouldnt be too much of an issue to get it towed up there.
on a side note, im at a loose end without a car to drive. might have to hound me mum to put me on her insurance so I can nick her fabia. If not it could be a week or so on the joys of the peasant wagon!

The dealer should arrange to collect it and provide a courtesy car for the inconvenience if the warranty covers your car (sounds like it should).
Have you called them yet?

we just waiting on news back from this garage first to see if they've uncovered any further damage after the engine strip. They are looking into the warranty to see if its possible for them to carry out the work. needless to say ill be on the blower the seat if it has to go through the dealership! dont have the funds to be throwing money away
