I know, I know this has been debated to death!

Before I start, due to the stage 2 map I will mostly be changing it this yar!

The cars done 38k and I've had it from new. So 4 years and 38k.

What's really confused me are the main dealers. I will mention both names, its not a slating its just for the record. One of them is Stoneacre Peterborough and the other is David Penman in Darlington (sort of recommended by SCN).

Handbook states 80k which we know was revised. However both dealers stated for this year of vehicle it would be either 40k or 60k (depending on engine number or 6 years!). Confused - this is a new one on me!

I mentioned the map and both covered their arses but errd on the side of 6 years and 60k (due to my engine number) with annual cambelt checks as to its condition - and yes these should be inspected everytime any how - in between times.

So all in all very confused - stated to both SCN consensus is 4 yrs/40k.

But in the end its all irrelevant as it will be done in the next couple of weeks (full kit and pump plus ancillary belt).

Still confused tho.

 I know what you mean.My Ibiza's now on 61,000 miles (04 plate). Some say 40k,60,80k,4 years,5 years.Handbook says 80k,dealer says 70k.Who to listen to?.I'm getting it done shortly anyway.Don't know wether to go to Seat,or independant for the work.Don't really trust the independant, but don't want to get ripped off at dealer.Decisions,decisions!.

Having it mapped has definately swung it for me to the 4 years/40k arguement. Even it it wasn't mapped I would probably have had it done.

Despite what the dealers say its too much of a grey area for me to make such an expensive mistake. The thought of a busted belt or adjuster grief does not bare thinking about. That's what swung it for me.

At the end of the day you are not saving costs, just deferring it unless you intend on keeping it for 12 years or more. (i.e. 2 belts per dealer as opposed to three belts as per me/SCN belt and braces approach).

btw both main dealer will charge just over £300 all in for the kit and fitting (not including the pump) in their quote. So not too bad imo.

:) Yup.£300 is better than forking out thousands!.I've been reading loads of threads on the cambelt subject.I think if mine were to go,i'd probably put it in for part ex with a knackered engine.Wouldn't want to pour money at it when it's only worth about £5k.Every time i start it now,or when i'm driving it,i'm thinking 'is this the day when it all goes horribly wrong'?.It's the no warning that gets me!.
I guess i'll put it into the main dealer. My independant 'specialist' didn't know how to get the brake light cluster out,and suggested i take it to Seat.:-o Hardly think i could trust them with a cambelt......
