You cant reprogram MK3 Ibiza's as they dont have electric power steering.

I adjusted Toms MK4 the other day (Toxxin) to 151 and apparently its much better...top tip...will remember that for the Fabia :)

P.S Hello Russell.

Ventured out from the Briskoda area of this site yesterday and stumbled across this thread which seems very useful, so I thought I'd plug in my VAG-COM and weight up the steering on my Fabia a bit - I have full version of VAG-COM, etc, and have not had any problems modifying autolock or EGR settings.

So, I followed the instructions in the first post and discovered that my car is set to 00110. No problem, I thought, I'll crank it up to 00151 as everyone has suggested, but each time it goes away and does the recode, and then I check the new value by clicking the recode button, it's still on 00110. I've tried values below 00110 and a range above, starting from 00120 and it refuses to change. Does this mean my power steering assist cannot be adjusted?

Car is a 2001 Fabia if that makes any difference :)

Thanks for any help!

Don't think you can on your car because you will need electronic power steering whereby the power steering pump is driven by an electric motor which is controlled by the ecu. Your car I believe has a crank driven pump and hence it is not possible to adjust. :thumbd:

Odd - when I test drove the Fabia vRS last year, I commented how horrible and light the steering was and the dealer said that it could be re-programmed to suit my needs.

A dealer telling a fib? Shurely shome mishtake!

The vRS can definitely be done, but I believe the first ones of those were 2003 cars so it's possible that they started using an electric pump for them, and mine is just a crank driven pump?

However, mine does have a VAG-COM entry which would suggest it may be uses the ECU?! I'm not sure :)

All new VW group car's have the adjustible electric steering unit's. I know this because one of the customers that we coat part's for is ZF Steering Systems and they told me that this is the future. Compacter and ease of adjusting to customers needs.

Do you know which year this was introduced across the VAG range?

Chris you mention it's a 2001 car, I'm sure electronic PS wasn't fitted to cars that far back ! Sure it is fitted to the Furby Vrs just as it is fitted to Ibiza's but the MK4 Ibiza's came out in 2002 which I think were the first to be fitted with it (correct me if I'm wrong guys).

@ScoobyChris Mk2 af far as i know the Ibiza was the first, then the A3, Golf etc and clearly the VRs must have it as well. I would say the new fabia will be the same seeing as the facelift is due soon.

Thanks for the info guys - so it sounds like it's not adjustable.

Sorry to dig this old thread up...

My ibiza was on 00111 and I couldnt get the coding to change when trying to recode with the engine running. Managed to recode to 00151 without the engine running and just the ignition on :) Improved the car 100% it actually has some feedback in the steering now!:D

182Blue...

I've already done this on my Cupra TDi and to be honest its not worth really bothering with, unless someone in the vicinty happens to have a copy of VAG-COM on there PC. The difference is so minimal its almost pointless.

I bet the Cupra TDi wasnt on a 111 setting to start out... it makes a substantial difference on the SE. :D
