Hi,

Looking for a bit of assistance with a replacement engine. My LCR snapped a conrod a few weeks ago.

Found a company who will collect the vehicle and drop in a engine - looks like it's a refurbished engine, says they have 0 miles on them, just have a couple of questions from those who have replaced an engine before.

What happens with the ECU? Will the current ECU work fine with a replacement engine. For example... if the ECU was remapped would this cause any problems, would it have to be wiped back to standard?

Also, when the engine failed on my LCR it took the fan on the drivers side out with it - do you have to buy the whole unit or can you just replace the fan itself as half of the fins are damaged.

The company who are offering the replacement are called "EngineWarehouse" in Middlesex - anybody on here heard of them or had any dealing with them?

Thanks! :)

The ecu doesn't recognise the individual engine/sensors - so no issues there. The engine should probably be run-in, so if it's remapped, take care - otherwise no issues.

Individual parts of the fan unit are replaceable.

The fan unit is about £400+ from a stealer and I don't think you can get the fans on there own. However someone recently posted that a MK4 Golf one is the same and can be had for abnout £80 on ebay for the full unit.

Sorry to hear about your car. How did it happen, and also would that be covered under the warranty? (depending on age and mileage)

Anybody happen to know how the fan comes out? Or how easy it is?

Or if you have any pictures of the LCR fan unit once it's removed as there's some on eBay for diesels and they seem to look similar?

Thanks all!

It's the 290mm fan which has been damaged - can't find any easy way of getting it out though.

Does the whole unit have to come out to replace one fan? Doesn't look an easy job removing that!

yeah the fan unit will have to come out its four bolts that hold the unit in and then out from under the car ( get it on axle stands )bit fiddly but not that hard just take your time

Hi guys, my engine went on my 02 Cupra, a valve chipped and jumped from piston to piston, was cheaper to have a new engine, i found a one on the website 247 spares, it cost me 890.00 and was delivered to the garage, but be aware, if they crease the hoses, you wil have to transfer yours over and it takes a little longer

I got My new/recon LCR engine from Backdraft, not the cheapest i know but there reputation and aftersales are bloody good!!! And thats what i was more than happy to pay for! Now done 1500 miles on the engine, it seems to pull stronger than the old one and gives better mpg! I'd say dont buy cheap go with recognised VAG specialist!

Hi Nabraxus

I had my Mk 1 Leon 110 TDi re-engined and it has a completely different personality. It drives like a petrol car and has lost 40% of its low down torque and 20% of its power. Superchips looked at the car and said that their chip is functioning correctly. Specialist dealer spent ages on my problem without any success. I have posted elsewhere but would like to know if you have similar problems.

Cheers.
