2001 1.9TDI (AUY) Engine - I need a replacent :(

Hi all,

I have a 2001 Seat Alhambra 1.9TDI 6sp manual (AUY Engine) and I've been losing coolant and have coolant contamination in the oil.

I've been through the usual suspect list and all came back fine. I've had the head tested twice and there was no fault with it.

The only possible culprit is a crack in the block causing coolant to mix with the oil, so I am therefore in need of a replacement engine.

2 Questions:

1> Is there just one variant of the 1.9 TDI AUY engine? I believe its the 115PD engine.

2> Does anyone know of any reputable companies who can provide them?

For the cost of a new block from SEAT I could buy another car so that option is off the table.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Regards
Simon

Hi Chaps (and chapesses!). I have a 2001 (Y) Alhambra 1.9 Tdi (AUY engine) with the same fault. Wife uses it around town for 3-4 days no worries. We go on 42 mile trip to in laws and it will overheat if you exceed 65-70 mph or climb hill. Engine oil temp seems to climb first followed rapidly by coolant temp. Once this has happened the warning for coolant level soon appears :-/
No " Mayo" on the dipstick or oil filler cap, no oil in water. Local garage recently replaced thermostat and it had a new water pump and radiator switch early 2012.
Have wondered about oil cooler being at fault but am really not sure what to do currently as i have read this thread and it seems to follow the route of lots of cash for HG then new engine!...HELP!

When my HG first went I had the same symptoms you describe, no visible sign of oil/water contamination and temp rises going up hill.

Take it to a garage to have a HG test - it will confirm straight away if you need to re-morgage the house or look at other cheaper solutions (oil cooler).

Good Luck!
