my cupra needs new pads all round. i've tried searching but all it seems to do is bring up aftermarket brands. what i want to know is are the standard Seat pads any good? i was recommended to use the standard Seat pads because there good, but i just rang Seat and there £65!:-o are they good enought to justify £65 or would i better off going for a different brand?

thanks

i prefer to open the door and drag my foot on the floor when stopping - it's better than the standard brakes!

I dont know much about the alternatives but i will not be spending any money on standard brakes again.

do a search and you'll find loads of stuff. upgrading discs and pads of same size is not much more expensive than standard but i dont think it's that much better either.

see. that's what i was thinking, i might just go for the Seat ones because anything else is going to cost alot of money. is it really not advisable to get cheapy ferodo's from motorist discount then?

my next problem is i was sold the car with no locking nuts! can't change the pads without getting the wheels off! either that or i'm looking for them in the wrong place. lol :D

ok, i think i will go with that then. i know the motorist discount ones are ferodos, are these likely to be the same ones?

if you dont have the socket for the locking nuts, you can buy a tool form halfords etc, that is just a head of pins, that will fit to any shape, hexagonal, locking nuts etc. Its what them *******s use that go round robbing peoples alloys!

well my pads are beyond bad. they were like this when i picked the car up. horrible noise when braking, like metal to metal, i think i'm gonna have to go with seat pads this time because i don't want to order other ones and have to wait till next week for them. i'll bear that in mind though.

The part number for Pagid fast road pads is FR5051, this is what I have fitted to my 2000 Model Ibiza Cupra 20VT, I think they were about £40 ish from GSF.

Well I got them off ebay for about £20 BNIB but I reckon GSF list them at about that price, but I could be wrong?

I think the Standard discs and pads are fine. I always stop in time. What sor of mileage have your discs and pads done ?? When did you last have a fluid change !!

I have only had the car for 3 months so I cannot answer that question. I have recently fitted delphi drilled and grooved discs, the pads listed above and done a fluid change. I think a fluid change is recommended every 2 years.
I personally reckon the standard brakes were poor but my car isn't making 156bhp anymore.
My previous car was a 2001 model 106 GTI and the brakes were a lot better.

std pads wont stop twice consequetively from high speed. 2nd time is much longer to stop... think motorway off sliproads.

nasty things.
