Altea Interior Light

Hi Folks,

Spotted a thread about interior lights below, but thought it wouldn`t be "the done thing" to hijack it.

My problem is that one of the front interior lights stopped working about 6 months ago when I unlocked or opened a door. Now the other one has packed up too. Both work OK when I switch them on directly using the switches on the right side of the panel, but not when I unlock or open a door.

I was going to post a picture of which kind mine is, but I`m not allowed  mine is the one with 2 lights rather than the 3 light version.

Any suggestions on a remedy please? a friend suggested it may be a bad earth, but I don`t know where the earth for this is?

Thanks in advance!

i think the quickest option would be to try replacing the sensor switch on the door? can have a look for the part when I get home, will let you know around 3pm.

altea owner , your welcome to hijack the thread i started http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=315625

is this the light you have ?

cause as you can see mine is the same , when i had it out the non working light came to life and the stopped , so its not the bulbs but the way the fitting is made , the polo mk6 one

Thanks for the replies folks!!

PDH - Ah yes, you`re right, just read that I need 15 posts to post images - nearly there!!

Lumor, thanks, but I forgot to mention that the rear interior lights work fine when I unlock/open the doors, so I don`t think it`s a sensor problem?

Mac Music, yep that`s the one, (I did try to rob your picture from the other thread , but it wouldn`t let me post the image because I`m under 15 posts!).
So you think it`s something inside the light unit itself? do you remember how it`s held into place? I`ve had the plastic cover off, but not had the whole thing out.
Be interesting to see if the Polo one works, though I`d guess it`d be pricey?

yep its something to do with the ways its made the one i have is Spanish made the polo one is Italian ,

once you get the clear plastic cover off you will find that there are 2 push in lugs each side ease them and out it will come fitting the polo one is the same lugs

as to the price of a polo one missed one on ebay the other week for £17

Thanks for that, I`ll whip mine out later and take a look - can`t be anything too technical in there I guess?! do you know what actually broke on your one?

£17 isn`t too terrible, didn`t think of eBay........ actually, just looked on eBay and spotted this VW POLO 9N 2003 INTERIOR LIGHT for £12 + £7.20 postage.... Mmmm still not enough posts to put a link in.... look for eBay item No. 320652679144
Which I think is the same as the one in your picture?

Just noticed you`re only up the road, I`m in Abridge, about 10 mins from Woodford Green

WAHEY, fixed mine, and took about 5 mins!

Popped the unit out, and opened it up, popped out the rocker switches and noticed that one set of the copper connectors had come slightly unstuck from the switch on one side - they`re held on by plastic "rivets" which are pretty small and rubbish - stuck a blob of glue under it.

Also bent all the brass connectors outwards on both switches, and now it works like a charm!

I think I`ll be able to post pictures after this post..........

Mac Music, I`d put money (not very much mind :) that it`s one or 2 of those plastic rivets broke on one of your switches - they really are poor...........

Hopefully picture to follow...........

Just open up the unit by pressing in the black plastic lugs on the sides and it will split into 2 pieces.

Then you can push the switches out by using a small screwdriver on the hinged part of them, give the brass connectors a small tug and if they are loose from the plastic switch, plop some glue underneath.

It`s also worth bending the connectors outwards VERY SLIGHTLY to ensure a good connection.

top part, don`t need to do anything with this, it`s all very solid.

Hopes this helps..............

so is it a direct fit?
got lucky local scrappy had a polo in yesterday just back from there now , straight fit

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48641567@N05/5763993549/" title="SAM_2389 by macmusic, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3509/5763993549_702e2bda74.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="SAM_2389"></a>

but there is a small bump in the front edge where it connects to the alarm module in the polo so it makes a small dent in the head lining i may dremel it off , i may not

Wow You did get lucky!!!, both picking it up & a direct fit!!

Looks good too, better than the 2 bulb version.

Shame about the small lip, If it were me, I`d find myself looking at it all the time and have to lop it off!!

Hi

Im trying to fix my sisters altea interior light, I tried messing about with the bulbs & did get one to light up for a fraction of a second but decided as above to get a new light unit.

Ive now also noticed that the boot & rear interior lights also don't work, In the manual it says that fuse 46 covers these, having checked the fuse box I have no fuse in that slot so how could I of got any light from the front unit, Im confused do I need a fuse in slot 46 ?

Is there anything else I should be looking at thanks.
