Help my dad with both right door not unlocking

lol I have the same issue, but mine are both on the left hand side (passenger)

The rear was the first to go, then the front, they went a little intermittent at first but now both are knackered, and as you say can only be opened from the inside and still can be, once opened they can be opened from outside all the time until it is locked again.

I was lucky as I say went intermittent to start, I had the child lock set to ON on the back doors cause of the kids, but I found then I couldn't open the door from out or in, so child lock is now set to OFF on that door, eldest now sits over there lol, so at least we can open from the inside now

Lots of people mention door locks, I should get around to looking at them one evening

Maybe take one out and have a poke around

IF you plug the car into the PC using Vag-com it should say what the fault code is, and then you could go from there, it could be the door lock mechanism or the door electrical module but you will know for sure once you see the fault code

Just changed the rear near side lock assy on my 2007 Altea XL.
It wasn't letting me open it from the outside even though it was unlocked, I could open it from inside and once I had opened it from inside I could then open from the outside as many times as I liked until it was locked again

and bingo we have a lock which now unlocks and is openable from the outside again

Bought the lock assy from a scrap yard for 30 quid and maybe an hour later old one out and new one in and all seems good

a few little fiddly bits but nothing too tricky really, if anyone want to any instructions let me know and I will see if I can remember the procedure.

Got to do the front one now, but I guess it should be very much the same as the front, back to the scrap yard and get the front lock assy

My driver's door is doing the same, I find having to use the key will work

Just need to replace the door lock mechanism , they are prone to going on the altea (all vag of hat era for that matter) can be found for around £40 each on eBay , or around £120 new each , take old one out (lots of guides on the web of how ) and then using the part number , order the right one and refit , not too difficult to do watching you tube vids to show you, mine been fine since , and that was with the eBay ones at £40 each
