A bit of a strange question...

I saw something over on the Briskoda forums and wondered about you guys here.

The guy said his wife was complaining that she couldn't keep her heel planted on the floor whilst operating the clutch, and had to lift her leg.

Now, I've owned a Punto, a Corsa (which I did 90k) and now the Leon, and I have never been able to operate the clutch without lifting my leg in any of those cars.

I was wondering if any of you guys have to do the same as me, or whether you can operate the clutch whilst keeping your foot planted.

I am short, and only have size 8 feet, but still I didn't think it was unusual to have to lift your whole leg.

What about everyone else?

Keep your heel on the carpet and let the clutch up? Maybe on a mini (proper classic one) but even then that is one strange technique.

I have size 7 feet and likewise always have to lift my leg, you surely need to to make sure you get enough power get the clutch fully depressed!

I've been able to do this once. Was in a friends pinto van (new shape)

Clutch felt almost like a button, very short travel and diesel so very forgiving. Never been able to do it on any other car and size 10 feet

i'm sure i'm a baby in terms of the amount of cars i've owned, let alone driven, but i'm on on my sixth car, and have never changed gear with my heel on the floor. I've always lifted my foot clear off the floor to use the clutch. Surely you wouldn't be able to get enough force down to open the clutch plates if you didn't?

I've just been out and I lift my foot all the way up too. I tried to lift the clutch up with my heel on the deck and it wasn't good. I've only got size 8 feet but I reckon you'd need at lest a 20 to work the clutch properly.

If she's not taking her heel off the floor then it sounds like she's "riding the clutch".

Size 10 feet and I have to lift my whole leg. I would be worried that I'm not pushing the clutch all the way down or driving with the clutch pedal down a little bit.
