Not a Seat - but my other car

Well here she is people, my other car that I intend to turn into a show car ready for next summer. I am the 2nd owner, been garaged since 1993 but needs a little work doing on it, only cosmetic though. Its a 1973 Ford Cortina 2000GXL with the vinyl roof with 23k on the clock and a Cadburys Dairymilk from 1993 in the glovebox.

The garage its been in is mainly metal so it appears that it has acted like an oven and baked the paint off the car so its going to need rubbing down to get rid some of the surface rust, new drivers wing needed, chrome work needs some work and then it will be having a full respray. Probably renew all the brakes and exhaust system as its been sat for so long. Anyone any suggestions though if this is required?

What you working on Gaz? Plan is to make it as original as I possibly can even down to the badges and stickers in the engine bay. The Mk3 doesn't sell for that much, but its been in the family since the day it was ordered, even have the order confirmation and receipt for it somewhere!

If it was my project, I'd be bare metal respraying it in a period Ford colour, rechroming the metal parts and getting some period retro wheels for it.

Good luck, sounds like you'll be having fun this winter!

Well it will be the first car I have worked on by myself so hoping it will be fairly easy to do.

Bare metal respraying? As in completely rubbing down all the paint work on it, badges off etc using what Tom? Chrome wasn't too bad to be honest, going to see how it comes up when I polish it. And wheels, what would you recommend?

im working on a 1966 triumph spitfire mk2, if you have original recipt and things that is very good to have with the car! you are best doing bare metal respray for the best finish otherwise the paint might react with the old paint and bubble up or crack

not really sure lots of sanding or paint stripper might work not looked into it as the spitfire is needing all new pannels and should be lots of fun

Think most of the rust on the bonnet is just surface rust, seems very solid. Its just the front drivers wing that seems less solid around the wing mirror. Want to do the whole thing properly though.
