Sabine tests the new Audi S3 vs. the new Golf R32

I'm afraid this video footage is all in German, and is 7 minutes 14 seconds long, so don't bother unless you have high speed connection. Sabine (from the Ring) is driving the R32 and is on usual form.

Both cars on a test track, final times:

Audi S3: 1m 04.80s
Golf R32: 1m 06.71s

Not as much difference as I'd hoped, but then I suppose its only a 1 minute lap.

Short track and the S3 is 2 seconds quicker, looked good for the S3.....maybe Tim's driving was slower than Sabines too (I think they should have both driven the cars)

Suppose in loose terms its 3% quicker than the R32 prior to remap / DV / filter.

Looks good for the new Cupra as I doubt the 4wd of the S3 would have accounted for anything on that test session. With its 2wd set up I reckon the Cupra will reclaim its crown as the fastest VAG hatch (unmodified).

A 30 lap race (all things being equal) and the S3 would be catching the R32 ready to lap it

Looks nicer than the R32 thats for sure!

Get the S3 mapped and it'll absolutely ruin the R32!

The Golf is supposedly heavier than the S3 by about 100kgs (weight of the extra 2 cylinders and less aluminum suspension componrnts I guess).

Also its 0-60 time is 0.8 seconds slower than the S3 (1455kg for the S3), and it has 15bhp less (261bhp vs 246bhp), 22lb-ft less torque (258lb-ft vs. 236).

So all in all I think it turned in a decent performance to olny be 2 secs behind. As Steve says though, different drivers in each car meant it wasn't really a fair picture. Both drivers should have lapped in both cars, then taken an average.

Tiff did a track day test drive of sorts in the S3 last night on 5th gear and the review was an absolute croc of shyte.

Maybe he was saving Audi's pride and being polite by keeping focus on the topic of how to address a track day, but there was no mention of whether the car was any good to drive.

would defo prefer the S3 over the R32, all day long, plus if its like the previous S3 will be a great anti depreciation car. Plus Audi S3's a re just that cut above Vw golfs are'nt they, being a bit of a snob and all that
