How Could SeatCupra.Net Be Improved? Please give suggestions.

I'd actually be interested to know what we could do better (in an open discussion) or at least an idea's thread

Please put some thought into your answers everyone!

I'd also suggest nothing that entails any more work for the guys.

I'd like to see members who start threads being encouraged to use appropriate thread titles. When you are searching for something, it becomes very frustrating if threads have misleading titles. Equally, some informative threads have titles that mean they'll never be found again.

In certain cases, I'd like to see mods amending thread titles to make them more useful for the archive / posterity.

Being informed of when a thread purge has been done would be cool, not which threads have gone but a simple note to say threads have been removed, I searched for ages on Monday looking for a thread, and in turn I guess it must of been removed, which is fine due to server space etc, I also looked for an old thread of pics of my car with Seli on, but couldn't find that, I understand as said about space on servers etc, but a simple "just to let you know" would be nice :)

It's one of the few processes that isn't automated, but I do it about once every 15 days & cull over 1500 threads, it would be hard work to contact everyone that's posted in each thread saying it's about to be deleted

The general rule is 30 days of inactivity

I know the stickys are important but I must confess I sometimes get used to them 'just being there' and automatically look to the posts underneath. Just wondered if any brand new stickies could be flagged in a different colour to green for a month (amber? red?) so they really stand out.

On the whole though I've always been well impressed with the site and the responsiveness to suggestions (introducing 'V5' to the search facility was tops  )

I agree about the stickies, for seasoned members they tend to merge into the background and newbies just ignore them.

My solution to this is to have useful information section containing the 10 or 20 most frequently asked questions in one place where newbies could be pointed towards to hopefully answer their questions before they get asked again.

I've sometimes been at a loss to know where to place a post which relates to SEATs in general, rather than to a specific model.

There is the section for Audi brand discussion but I think that doesn't get noticed by many people.

I think a general SEAT section might be useful.

Apart from that I think its a great site.

I agree would be handy and to reiterate the use of "search" function before posting

id like a:
"go to last message by me" button.
so if i log on and a thread has carried on in my absense i can go straight to where i left it last.
or... an icon that lists the number of entries in a thread on your last visit...

I agree on the thread title thing.
it would be good if you could edit this, as sometimes especially if asked about something that you are a bit clueless about you can realise the title isnt the best when your knowledge improves.

Also i often use user/cp to see which threads i am subscribed to that have had new entries. How long does this last for as it seems to be rest everyso often?

I'll change the usergroup permissions to allow 'full members' to change their thread title...

It'll be interesting to see if it gets used

Maybe having an obvious search field box, like on some other forums its near the top of the page, not on a drop down. I appreciate this may clutter the design a little but would probably encourage (especially newbies) to use the search as i bet half of them don't even know it's there.

Otherwise I can't fault it, works very well, Thankyou!

Forum Rules Section

I've just been having a look and I really think the section could do with some sorting.

My main suggestion would be that ALL the forum rules should be in one thread. Not one post, but one thread.

Different sets of the rules could be grouped into separate messages.
Rules that affect newcomers most should be at the beginning of the thread.

Existing rule stickies should be amended to contain just a link to the relevant post in the new thread.

The rules sections should have all other posts cleared out of them.

I'm willing to assist in any way with this if it's deemed worthwhile.

"When i logged into tdiclub the other night to pop a post on, there's a button next to the post title that you can click which brings back similar thread titles to the one you're about to use / have entered in the subject box. The idea is you hit that once you've put your own title in to see if the question had already been asked.

I just thought it was a neat way of integrating the search function but making it more of a 'push' to use it .... could that be done on SCN?"

As i suggested in another thred.

What about a hot thread link?

ie sometimes some threads get very busy and you just sort of run into them at the last innings (such as the recent "Slate" thread)

I would of loved to be able to watch that one unfold piece by piece, made me chuckle!
