Custom FMIC vagcom results :)
Hi for all of you who havnt seen my previous posts heres a recap, I bought a universal intercooler off ebay for around £100, i then used intercooler pipes off a Ford Focus C-Max and some straight metal pipe to make the pipework. In all it cost me around £140. The intercooler looks the part imo but as there would be lots of critasism over wether or not it actually works. Heres a few pics of the intercooler itself.
![]() ![]() ![]() Now after getting a ebay cable off a friend and spending ages trying to download the correct drivers and correct vagcom. . . and get the interface working, i finally managed to get vagcom working. I measured block 01-004 and got the following results Saturday 21 April 2007 18:15:13 6K0 906 032 1.8L R4/20VT SEA 0002 Group A: '004 RPM Voltage Temp Temp TIME Marker STAMP /min V °C °C 0.02 1680 13.86 90 36 0.4 1720 13.86 90 36 0.8 1720 13.86 90 36 1.2 1720 13.86 90 35 1.6 1720 13.86 90 35 2 1720 13.79 90 35 2.4 1720 13.86 90 36 2.8 1760 13.86 90 35 3.2 1760 13.86 90 34 3.6 1760 13.58 90 34 4 1480 13.65 90 33 4.4 1400 13.79 90 33 4.8 1440 13.86 90 34 5.2 1440 13.86 90 34 5.6 1480 13.86 90 34 6 1520 13.79 90 33 6.49 1560 13.72 90 33 7.01 1640 13.86 90 32 7.51 1680 13.86 89 30 8 1760 13.79 89 30 8.4 1840 13.51 89 29 8.8 1920 13.79 88 29 9.18 2000 13.72 89 28 9.6 2040 13.86 88 27 10 2120 13.58 89 27 10.4 2200 13.79 88 27 10.89 2320 13.79 88 27 11.41 2400 13.65 88 26 11.81 2480 13.79 88 26 12.21 2560 13.93 88 26 12.61 2640 13.86 88 26 13.01 2720 13.86 88 26 13.39 2800 13.93 88 26 13.79 2840 13.93 88 26 14.19 2920 13.93 88 26 14.59 3000 13.93 88 26 14.99 3080 13.72 88 26 15.39 3160 13.93 88 26 15.79 3200 13.93 87 26 16.19 3280 13.65 87 26 16.59 3360 13.93 87 26 16.99 3440 13.86 87 26 17.39 3480 13.93 87 26 17.79 3560 13.79 87 26 18.3 3640 13.93 87 26 18.7 3720 13.86 87 27 19.1 3760 13.72 87 27 19.5 3840 13.86 87 27 19.9 3920 13.72 87 27 20.3 3960 13.86 87 27 20.7 4040 13.93 87 27 21.1 4080 13.72 87 27 21.5 4160 13.93 87 27 21.9 4240 13.93 87 27 22.3 4280 14 87 27 22.7 4360 13.86 87 27 23.1 4400 13.93 87 27 23.5 4440 13.86 87 28 23.9 4480 13.93 87 28 24.3 4560 13.93 87 28 24.68 4600 13.93 87 28 25.08 4640 13.93 87 28 25.48 4680 13.93 87 28 25.88 4720 13.86 87 29 26.3 4760 13.79 87 29 26.79 4840 14 87 29 27.19 4880 13.86 87 29 27.59 4920 13.86 87 29 28.11 4960 13.86 87 29 28.59 5000 13.79 87 29 29 5040 13.79 87 29 29.48 5080 13.72 87 30 29.88 5120 13.93 87 30 30.39 5160 13.86 87 30 30.79 5200 13.86 87 30 31.19 5120 13.93 87 30 31.59 5080 14 87 29 32 4920 14 87 30 32.39 4760 14 87 30 32.79 4560 14 87 31 33.19 4400 14 87 32 33.59 4240 14 87 32 33.99 4120 14 87 33 34.39 3960 14 87 33 34.79 3840 14 87 33 35.2 3680 14 87 33 As you can see i was very happy, The log was done in 4th gear approx 40-120mph (private road) and even at 5200rpm the max temp i saw was 30 degrees C. This just goes to show that you dont need to spend £££'s to get good results, i hope this shows people that it can be done the custom way, cheap, but also working well, and is also an alternative for those who have a tight budget. All comments welcome as i would like feedback on this and your views, Cheers.

Just for info, 5200rpm in 4th is 102mph. (assuming your on standard alloys+tyres)
I've done a comparison between your logs and some ive done of my car. In 4th, from 2k to 5k (30mph - 100mph) your car takes 30 seconds, and mine take 18seconds. Were you full throttle during the log above?

Yeh its on a standard map as i say approx because i just had the laptop on the passanger seat and pressed start before going full throttle, then i concentrated on the road, i was quite happy with this tho but as you say good point about the remap and boost levels, im going to be fitting my k03s soon and then gettin it mapped and exhaust so we will see.

If i go out and log, initially the temps go up to around 35'C, after a few runs the SMIC saturates and temps peak at 50'C.
So is the run above a 1 off, or did you consistently get a max of ~30'C?

k03s mapped to around 23psi will make things a hell of alot hotter under the bonnet. If you are already seeing intake temps of 30 degrees (what was the ambient temp) with standard boost. It will be interesting to see how well it can cool the intake temps when you fit your turbo and get it mapped

Also worth logging airflow maybe? See if the custom cooler is any more restrictive than the standard item.

Seems high for a 9 psi standard map, would be interesting to see what others see standard as I never really have logged one.
