Buying advice needed
The wife starts driving lessons next month and with it being our 25th wedding anniversary this year I’m looking to buy her a cheap, (£1300), small car. Has to be really small as she’s only 5’ nothing.
Choices so far are: Peugeot 106 (1.4 diesel) Nissan Micra Fiat Cinquecento (possibly Sporting) Looking around I can, for the money, get a 1994 (M) with 60,000 on the clock. Opinions on the above most welcome, and other options, (she doesn’t want a Vauxhall, taught her that much at least). Thanks |

Micra was a nice car when I had one for 3 weeks while mine was being re built.
OR - for that kinda cash, buy an Ibiza like mine (but with 1/2 the miles)

Yep, Nissan Micra from 1993 onwards (bubble shape) sound be OK. The gf owned one for about 3 years, 1.3 engine. Fairly nippy, very reliable - only fault was a flat battery once - easy to work on for your own servicing and felt much bigger when actually driving it. Handy town car. In fact we're now looking to get another one.
If you haven't done so already, look at Honest John's car-by-car breakdown for things to look out for. HTH.

I had a Fiat Cinq Sporting for 6months whilst waiting for Leon R. Great fun and cheap to run, but switchgear is a bit dated and no power steering.
I loved it and would bother a lot more expensive and powerful machinery at every available opportunity. Sold it to my mum who also enjoys it and isn't too bothered about lack of power steering. She is holding onto to it till my brother turns 17 in April. Matt |

Just put a deposit yesterday on a P reg Rover 100 Knightsbridge, (56,000 miles). Pick it up on Monday and surprise the wife, (not done that since our honeymoon).

Mik,
Collected it Monday Lunchtime, put key in gift box and handed it over to the wife. She was actually speechless for about 10 whole minutes, (new record her). Thankfully she loved it, will take her out in it Sunday on some industrial estate just to get her started. Proper driving lessons start this Friday. For what it is it drives surprisingly well, and is in excellent condition. Brakes scared the sh*t out of me though after the Cupra. Start with the waxing weekend and will have the honour to be the first member to post a photo of a Metro, (Rover 100), on the site

I had physical contact last night too
The downside is that it involved an attempted invasive nether region access using a set of car keys..... which wasn't as much fun ![]()
