Exclamation SEATCupra.net Social Groups

I know many of you have probably discovered some of the many new aspects of the forum software already.

The new software has the function of social groups, think of it as a little bit like a mini Facebook or myspace wall built into the forum. We hope it helps keep the day to day chit chat out of the more important sections of the forum. However on top of that it's a good tool to create groups for those meets and other past times that some of you are involved with both as part of SCN or outside of it.

For those who may have not delved deeper into the new functions here is a quick overview of the social groups and how to find them and join them.

1. From the Forum homepage click on the QUICKLINKS button as illustrated below.
Then click on Social Groups.
Alternatively you can access it from your USERCP

2. The list of available Social groups will be displayed as the image below illustrates.
Click onto a social group as you would any thread in the forum.

3. The Social group will display the members of the group, and if it is a Public group you will see posts in there that people have already made. If it is private or invite only group you will not be able to see any of the posts.
As the image below, click the JOIN GROUP link in the top right as illustrated.

4. As shown click YES to join the group. Pretty straight forward so far eh kids.

5. Use the reply box as you would any other post on the forum.
New posts are displayed on the same page and listed below the reply box.
They are listed latest post first and older posts below.

NOTE: We can monitor the social groups, as much as we can the rest of the forum. So the forum rules apply just as they do anywhere else. Do not misuse the social groups or they will be taken offline.

How to create social groups

We have given you the ability to create your own social groups as you would a thread on the forum. You as the creator can choose whether they are public, moderated, or invite only. The social group creator acts very much like a moderator of that group in all cases.

As stated above we won't allow social groups to be misused those that are deemed in conflict with our forum rules, such as criminal activity, political, racist or abusive views etc. In short be sensible.

HOW TO CREATE A SOCIAL GROUP

1. As already explained above use the QUICKLINKS to go to the social group listings.
Now when the list of active social groups is displayed scroll down to the bottom of the list.

Yes you guessed it. Click on CREATE A NEW GROUP as shown below.

2. Now using the image below as guide.

Give the group a clear sensible name, not too long.
Give it a good description based on what the group is for.

Set the Group type, this can be either:

PUBLIC:
Anyone including Newbies can join this and the postings are not moderated.
MODERATED: Anyone can join the group, but the creator can moderate what is posted. *I think needs testing though to be sure
INVITE ONLY: Self explanatory really. This group is only viewable after being invited to join by the creator.

Social groups can also have albums assigned to them, but you can only add pictures that are already a part of your individual profile quota. (this may expand in the future but it requires more server disk space)

Message can either be enabled or not.

Users must join to view the content, again self explanatory. If this is set on a public group, people won't be able to view messages until they join it. If its not clicked then they don't have to be members to view the content.

Have fun!

Just a quick question how do put up a avatar picture for the social group heading “battlefield 3” as apposed to just having the question mark picture.

Thanks

There is usually an EDIT GROUP option at the bottom of your social group page.

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/group.php?groupid=70

However the tools in the social groups can be a bit crap to be honest.

I've stuck something suitable up for you.

No problem, like I say the social groups aspect of the forum software was new in this version and its not been very well implemented. The newer software we will move over to at some point, likely drops it in favour of Facebook connect.
